BuckeyePlanet Spring Training
It's the offseason... time to set aside serious conversation and goof off in the football forum, right?
HELL NO!!! This is a great opportunity to increase football knowledge across the board (pun intended) and subsequently raise the level of conversation. (Maybe I will catch up with you lifelong fanatics one day!) We've done this before... just need to get the ball rolling again. So, please toss in any resources you feel would help others to increase their knowledge about the game, and let's see where things go from there. I'll start with something everyone should read, if you haven't already. BP's best football blogs: Basics of the Offensive Line O-Line Schemes: Zone Blocking vs. Drive Blocking Basics of the Secondary for the Armchair Quarterback Secondary Basics Part II Basics of the 4-3 Defense 3-4 Defense (Graphics Missing) Last edited by Deety; 05-01-2006 at 01:26 PM. |

Exhawg, would you consider finding a few useful video clips and breaking down what's going on with the OL? I bet we'd get some good convos going from there. Thanks in advance. ![]() |

Deety I tried to look for the pass blocking blog, but couldn't find it. IIRC I put it up last year at some point. |

Seeing as how in four years of HS ball, i played everything but punter and kicker in a game situation, I could offer up a couple articles on various positions. Just to keep some new info out there, and generate some convo.

I just started playing my freshman year. I'm hoping to pick up some tips to help my game.
I have played in the last two seasons almost every single position you could think of. My freshman year, started by being put on the offensive line. Despite only weighing 140 lbs. Lets just say, that didn't work out too good. I was then moved to RB/FB. That was better, but really wasn't my "thing". On defense I played Safety and Corner. Also playing LB. I'm "hoping" to play DE this year. Maybe this will help me. |

Ted there's a lot of things to think about before deciding your position. Being 140, how tall are you? If you want to play DE, you need to put some mass on, switch. No offense to you whatsoever, but I was a 5'9 235 pound center,/guard/tackle....and even in my craptastic hick div 3 high school we were 250/235/235/240/275 on the front 5. You are asking to get handled if youre that small. It also depends on the scheme your school plays.

Also, our center was barely 200. Oh yea, we play Division 2 Also, just wanted to say this, our star DE, who is being recruited by OSU, was 6'6" and 195-200 lbs. And he dominated. But I'm going to guess, for every rule, there is a exception to that rule. |

Odd... must be scrawny down in that part of the state.... our line when I was in school consisted of nobody under 6'0 or 295. Not toomuch extra baggage on those frames, either.

Our center was only 196, 5'11". But he was one of the best center/longsnappers in Columbus. |

All I have to say is that if you're that skinny, you better have some great instincts, technique, and you have to be quick. Otherwise, you want to get your weight up to at least 220 to play DE... |

All of our DE's, except for one which is 220, are at/under 200. Plus the D line coach has already asked me to play DE. |
