Rivals is smoking crack...I can't think of another explanation. 5 star prospect...easy.

With all do respect, after watching all the tape assembled for Mike Adams, I'm more impressed with 5-6 other Olinemen.. Mike should definately be a Top100 player, but I just dont see the dominant player all u guys are seeing on these tapes...

If this guys name was Joe Hill from Kansas or somebody.. i would watch his tape, and say yea, he's a huge dude, can move pretty well, is above average in pass protect.. but he's not the #1 OT in the country and isn't a surefire 5 star player like everyone in Buckeye land seems to be claiming

Mean streak, consistency with his foot work, sometimes looks like a robot doing exactly what the play calls for when an adjustment is clearly needed, appears uninterested at times (not goin 100% every play).. There are a few plays in his latest highlight tape where he gets an initial shot on the defensive player, then basically stops playing, and that same guy he got the initial shot on winds up involved in the tackle.. if he would stay on the guy and bury him like he's capable of Id be a lot more impressed..

I really just dont know how u guys watch a lot of his tape, and say "Wow, this guy is a no brainer for 5 star status"... you watch Brewster's tape, u watch Tyron Smith's tape, u watch Kalil or Steinkuhler and u say "Wow".. I dont say that when I watch Mike Adams..

That being said, those that have seen him in person rave about him.. so ill take their word over the tape provided by Scout and Rivals

Highlight tape means jack really..point in case..Keith Wells has a great highlight tape but there is no way you can tell me he is the #6 weakside d-end in the country. He just got benched for playing so bad for crying out loud. Anybody can make a good highlight tape! People who have seen big mike in person usually all say the same thing...he is damn good! I would take that over any highlight film!

I guess we are just going to agree to disagree...

He has great feet, moves very very well, great base, great lateral movement...Brings a force with him when on the move...

I guess we are different in I felt the same way about Kalil...Not saying Kalil is not good, but I think Adams has the wow factor and Kalil, not the wow factor of Adams...

Cty4 has a good eye...he's shown that over the last few years. I respect his thoughts even if I don't completely agree.

You sound like me when I watched Josh Jenkins...sometimes when I watch these films, something sticks to me (good or bad) and I can't shake it (good or bad). Let me tell you my moment of "sticking" with Mike Adams...one of the films, not exactly sure which...he has a kick slide that is so fluid, so athletic, and so dang quick that I about jumped out of my chair. About 4 years ago, we had a volunteer coach with us...guy played for the Baltimore Ravens and would likely still be playing if his legs hadn't given out. Anyway, I watched him trying to teach our OL the kick slide...even with broken down legs, it was amazing to watch this monstrous 6'8" 320+ man glide with such grace. Then I watched our kids...athletes who I watch do any dunk imaginable in the gym (two of whom are playing college ball now) fall all over themselves trying to complete the same move.

When I saw Mike Adams move...I had my moment. Then I watched his explosiveness, his hand work, his extension on shooting hands, his leverage, and the way knees buckled when he blasted chest plates. I disagree about the mean streak...that is one of the things I loved.

As far as some of the exclamations in this thread...I agree with you. Comparison to OPace is sacrilege, starting next season is a stretch for any freshman OL, and the position of #1 OL in the country is tough to call...especially when you watch some of the guys you listed. However, as a disclaimer, unless the kid is coming from Ohio, Texas, Cali, or Florida...I want to know about the competition.

Mike Adams might not be the top OL in the nation...maybe not even the top OT. However, that's the beauty of these boards...we all have our own "moments"

To me, Adams is a 5-star, Brewster is a 5-star, Shugarts is a 4, Jenkins is a 4, and Long is a 4.

It don't get any better than this...Give yourself a GPA...

The only slight difference in opinion I have is that I have Shugarts as a 5 star...But really that is like splittling hairs, and for a different thread...

I'll give him one...

BuckeyeCty4... I know you're a Rivals guy, but I would suggest you watch the Adams film from Scout also if you can... The clips Rivals has put up (from the same games) seem like they are trying to prove their stance on him... The Scout films include many more impressive plays from the same games that Rivals has chosen (conveniently) to leave off their highlight reels...

This is what makes OL recruiting so hard.

I did speak to a HS ref yesterday who did a Coffman game this year. He said that Adams can play at 70% and nobody can get by him. The ref said it has to be hard for him to get fired up on every play because it is so easy for him to do his job.

The one thing he said that tells me he has that mean streak is that he got into a little scuffle with the DE and on the next play he said Adams threw the kid back about 3 feet and then ran at him and planted him in the ground. He got up and the ref said he stared at the kid on the ground as if to say "mess with the bull and you'll get the horns". Said the kid never went at Adams hard the rest of the night.

That is what I don't understand...how can one recruiting service have Big Mike ranked as a top 15 player (see latest post by Buckskin86 http://www.buckeyeplanet.com/forum/football-recruiting/35113-2008-rivals-scout-etc-national-regional-rankings-37.html#post955749) and another service (Rivals) completely dog him almost going out of their way to do so?

When I saw Adams live, I didn't have the ability of rewinding film and I didn't have an endzone view...but from my vantage, and to grad's point, his pass blocking is clearly at another level when compared to the average high school senior.

Most high school linemen have poor pass blocking technique, either by lunging out as if they are drive blocking, or not using their hands/arms properly (i.e. blocking with their forearms rather than their HANDS), or not knowing how to properly shove the DL and recoil for him again, or not having great footwork.

Granted, from my vantage, it was hard to see the kickslide, but when I saw Adams live, I was impressed with his footwork, desire to finish the play, and pass blocking skills. I see where Cty4 is coming from on the robotic comment - I never thought that when I was watching Adams, but after the fact, that comment makes a little sense.

Regardless, I think Adams is the best OL prospect in this state and one of the top 5 OTs in the country (if you consider Brewster a center/guard) - where he falls within those top 5 is subject to the eye of the beholder.

i made this very point to him on the rivals board as well. the two films aren't even close, and they oddly enough contained footage from the same games.
