agree, if they were rolling around in a model t with monocles and top hats and corncob pipes, big teddy (roosevelt) style, then the actions of the cops were pretty over the top and uncalled for

the much more likely scenario is that there was a pipe from a head shop that they were using to smoke regular ol tobacco and the cops were naturally suspicious of it.

of course, fingers absolutely crossed for that first scenario. because that would be awesome

Mike seems to have his own style, which I dig. A sweet Dunhill or Savinelli may well fit in to all that. But hey, some people may smoke dope out of a nice tobacco pipe, so he must be guilty too.

The charges against freshman OSU offensive lineman Mike Adams for possession of drug paraphernalia were dismissed Monday in the Franklin County Municipal Court.

Adams, 18, and teammate J.B. Shugarts, 19, were both charged with misdemeanor possession when police found a pipe during a Jan. 14 traffic stop in which Adams ran a stop sign at North Pearl Street and East 14th Avenue.

"The pipe that was tested came back, tested negative for any contraband," said Adams' attorney Garth Cox. "Also, Mike had voluntarily taken a drug screen the next day and his drug screen also come back negative.

"There were no drugs present in his system either and based on that they dismissed it."

Cox said Shugarts had also taken a voluntary drug screen and his results came back negative as well.

Shugarts is scheduled to appear in court on Wednesday.

"Hopefully we get the same result, but you never know - a different judge, a different prosecutor, and we'll just have to wait and see," Cox said.

Adams pled guilty to running a stop sign and was fined $25 plus court costs.

Both freshmen played last season and were injured. They are expected to be among the players competing for starting positions along the revamped Ohio State offensive line.

An Ohio State spokeswoman said coach Jim Tressel had no comment on the proceedings.

Well, if that isn't damn good news to wake up to. I know that some of this was coming out a bit yesterday and all... but to see it in print, in one article, that both passed their wiz-quiz... Man... such a relief.

I never passed judgment on either of these kids. I did plenty of stupid things in college myself, but to read that this issue was a non-issue is quite a relief. That O-line needs these guys next year, and in the years to come. I would so much rather discuss their blocking and footwork rather than off field issues.

I just got back from two months in Florida where the closest local paper is the Daytona New Journal. The Daytona paper sucks for coverage of anything, but particularly for coverage of sports.

My buddy called me last night because an article on Adams and Shugarts had shown up in that rag.

To the rest of the world the dismissal will just be another O$U cover-up.

I would really like to know what the pipe looked like. As a pipe smoker myself having and seeing thousands of different styles and shapes, i've never thought of one looking like a reefer pipe.
