Wouldn't think this is too big of a deal but i do remember the announcers being during the fiesta bowl saying this year that it looked like the buckeyes were in better condition than those domers

Mike Cochran

Played for and later coached for Coach Tressell at YSU. Came over with Tress to Ohio State and then went with Snyder to Marshall. Supposedly he was an "up and comer" with major Div1A offers even while he was still at YSU.

I think Johnson is being forced out. Tressel saw the film from the scUM game. Al's sideline dance was atrocious!!

The players can't respect him after that jig.

Strengthcoach could go either way
Remember this name Ethan Reeve. Not sure if he would be considered for the job but he is a very good strength coach. He was at Ohio university when Coach Grobe was there, and then he followed coach grobe to Wake forest

Ohio State football strength coach fired, two say
School has no comment; OSU star Whitner says Johnson's test was nation's hardest.

By Doug Harris

Staff Writer

COLUMBUS | Ohio State football strength and conditioning coach Allan Johnson has been fired by head coach Jim Tressel, two former players confirmed Thursday.

OSU spokesman Steve Snapp said Tressel was out of town and unavailable for comment, and the school had no announcement planned.

"I'm not aware of anything," Snapp said. "It doesn't mean it's not happening, but I'm just not aware of anything right now."

Donte Whitner and Nate Salley, two former OSU players who were selected in last month's NFL draft, both said they heard of Johnson's dismissal, as did assistant strength and conditioning coach Butch Reynolds. The former Olympic track star expects Tressel to officially inform the staff at a meeting today.

"Coach Johnson is definitely a leader," Reynolds said. "His credentials speak for themselves. But he's been doing this for 22 years. I'm sure he's ready to move on and enjoy life. It can be trying over here."

Johnson, who couldn't be reached for comment, was known for his unorthodox methods, and there have been rumblings that his offseason program was too intense. But Whitner didn't feel that way.

"Our conditioning test was the hardest in the country — by far," he said. "But I wouldn't say he worked guys too hard. That's the way you have to work to be successful at this level."

Johnson joined the Ohio State coaching staff in the summer of 2001 — four months after Tressel was hired — after a stint at West Virginia. The Parkersburg, W.Va., native was named national strength and conditioning coach of the year in 2002.

COLLEGE FOOTBALL
Strength coach likely to leave OSU program

Ohio State football strength and conditioning coach Allan Johnson is expected to leave the school by the end of May, sources close to the program told The Dispatch on the condition of anonymity last night.
The decision apparently is mutual, with Johnson pursuing other options and OSU not standing in his way. Neither Johnson nor coach Jim Tressel returned calls yesterday. Athletics department spokesman Steve Snapp said he could not confirm anything.
Johnson, 49, came to OSU in June 2001, replacing Dave Kennedy, who had been strength coach since 1989. Johnson was named National Strength Coach of the Year in 2002.
Before coming to Columbus, Johnson was West Virginia’s strength coach. He is a Parkersburg, W.Va., native.
One possible candidate to replace Johnson is Mike Cochran, a former assistant under Johnson at OSU before leaving to become Marshall’s strength coach last year.
Before coming to OSU, Cochran spent six years as a graduate assistant coach and strength coach under Tressel at Youngstown State.
