RB's only
California-Lynch and Forsett are the best duo in the nation. Lynch is the best RB in the nation outside of Norman,OK.
Oklahoma-Peterson and Karen Holbrook would be the second best backfield in the nation
OSU-if Chris Wells lives up to his press clippings, and Pittman continues where he left off, this could be the #1 backfield at the end of the year. If you throw QB into the equation, they already are.
scUM-Hart plus lots of depth, speed.
Clemson and Georgia have lots of depth, but they don't have a proven "man" like the 4 mentioned above. Texas should be part of the discussion if Charles is healthy all year. V-Tech might be a sleeper-two big time recruits who haven't really played yet due to injury/depth-George Bell and the kid who was #1 in the country two years ago, before he hurt his knee at the Army game and RSed. NC St. has a ton of talent waiting to really bust out as well-Bobby Washington, Toney Baker, Andre Rose (I think that is his name-big time recruit who had to go to Hargrave due to grades).

Clemson
James Davis 165 for 879 as an 18 year old...missed final game and a half due to a broken hand or would have had 1K easily. Reggie Merriweather 149 for 715 is pretty good for split carries.
Georgia
Imo, this backfield has as much talent as any in the nation...but your point is about being "proven" so I will agree for now. However, my agreement lies in the health factor that has not been displayed...not in the proven ability to be "the man."
Love the actual football discussion...its been sorely missed around here.

i would consider Miami as well... they will be returning a healthy Tyrone Moss, Charlie Jones who is a power back and they picked up 3 good running back in recruiting... dont be surprised if they are in the top 5 this will also take alot of pressure from Kyle Wright.

Heck, I'd take scUM St's backfield over scUM's.
Better at QB (Stanton)
Better potential at RB (Ringer)
Ringer / Jimmerson / Caulcrick
I sure hope the offense has a good day when we play them.....

After further discussion...I'd say all would agree that we deserve top-10 status based on unproven depth and Pittman alone.
As far as our young backs proving themselves...if one of the 3 comes out running for 5/6 yards a carry through the first 3 or 4 games, I'd say this becomes a no brainer...we would then be without a doubt in my mind top 3 material.
With QB included...does anyone else even come CLOSE???

Throw in the QB and then Louisville has to be in the discussion

Brohm and Bush make a tough combo...I don't know anything about their RB depth though.
With QB included...I just realized that 99% of teams with stud backfields have young or unproven QBs.
Unfortunately if we include QB...the ole' Domers have to enter the discussion. Walker is solid...but they don't have much behind him as of right now. Powers-Neal is NOT good IMO.
