Okay, we're all happy that whatever "drug paraphernalia" came back "clean" and whatever tests were done exonerates these guys. I have to ask the question, though -- did they just dodge a bullet, meaning it's their pipe, bowl or whatever the thing was and they just hadn't gotten around to smoking in it yet (ie. there's still a problem, just not a legal one at the moment), or was this a case of an over-zealous CPD citing them with an inappropriate charge, or something that belonged to a friend, etc? What's the inside scoop on this? Are either of these guys going to wind up in Tress' infamous doghouse?

I thought I read somewhere that the apparatus in question was a standard tobacco pipe.....and while I assume you can smoke lots of different substances in one (I've only smoked pipe tobacco in mine, honestly
) it didn't sound to be like what they had was a bong or anything. Now maybe I'm completely off base with what I thought I heard/read, but if that is the case, I don't feel the least bit worried if that's all they had in their car and it came back "clean". |

Shugarts' charge was dismissed in court this morning, per The Dispatch. The attorney's explanation doesn't seem to say why the dismissals were a week apart, but the reason for that doesn't seem to matter.

So apparently the pipe belonged to Shugarts and not Adams.
BTW - can't the cops simply smell the dang pipe at the scene, and if it smells like pipe tobacco, what probable cause would they have? If it smells like weed, then by all accounts go ahead and charge them. Seems like it would save everybody a lot of hassle over nothing, not to mention taxpayers' $. |

For all the folks who got their little knickers in a knot and assumed these two kids were guilty: shame on you! These guys did nothing except run a stop sign and have a tobacco pipe in their car. They and the pipe had no trace of drugs.
Let's see the press publicize the outcome, like they did the arrest. |

Would be nice.

I was told that the pipe was not out in the open either. It was like in the glove compartment or something. My question is, why would they ask to search a car that slid through a stop sign on an icy day? The entire situation seems odd to me.

Somebody needs to listen to more Jay-Z.

Haha oh you think it was one of those? That's unfortunate.

you're looking at this way too positively, they clearly just wanted to re-emphasize that two Ohio State football players were charged with something in the first place

The police can ask to search any car they want to durinig a stop. I ask to search most of the vehicles I pull. Not that I do, but I like to see their reaction to the question. Im glad the whole thing is behind these guys. |
