Over the top? I wish I knew the others as well as I know Dane. They too deserve the attention that I give this recruit. It's easy to talk about him having watched his progression. Sorry if this oozes with bias. I've been idle for a while.

Dane Quotes

Excerpts from the Blade article on signing day:

http://www.toledoblade.com/apps/pbcs...73273671894986

Quote:
"There will be a lot of new challenges, a lot to learn, and a big transition to make, but I am really looking forward to all of it," Sanzenbacher said after formally committing to Ohio State.

Dane appreciates the rich tradition at OSU where "football really matters":

"Part of the attraction for me has always been the tradition at Ohio State, and how important football is there. I think that is definitely a major part of why anyone who plays football wants to play at a place like Ohio State. You want to go to a place where football really matters, and where the tradition is so rich."
The multitalented Sanzenbacher is one of 15 of the nation's top high school football players who made their intentions to play for Ohio State official yesterday. Ohio State lost two of its fastest receivers last month when juniors Anthony Gonzalez and Ted Ginn Jr. decided to leave a year early for the NFL, so head coach Jim Tressel is pleased to have someone with sprinter's speed like Sanzenbacher coming in.

Coach Tressel liked what he saw in Dane (ie speed):

"We lost a significant amount of speed this past year, but we feel as though we were able to replace that speed with this class," Tressel said. "That was a high priority for us."
Sanzenbacher, who was fourth in the state in the 400 meters last year, played defensive back, returned kicks, and played some at quarterback as well as receiver for Central Catholic. He expects to be catching passes for the Buckeyes, at least initially.

Dane's fine with doing whatever is asked of him:

"The coaches down there have talked to me a little about what their plans are for me, and I know it's definitely going to be on offense," Sanzenbacher said. "But I am going in with an open mind - wherever they need me to play - that is fine with me. I am willing to do whatever they need me to do."
Sanzenbacher finished his career with 151 receptions for 2,808 yards and 24 touchdowns. He rushed for two more touchdowns, and passed for another pair of scores. He also has three punt returns for touchdowns, and averaged 20 yards on his punt and kickoff returns.

I like this last statement, Dane looks forward to playing against Michigan and is at a loss for words (actions will speak volumes):

"If you just have a love for the game of football like I do, it really doesn't matter to me if I end up on offense, or on defense," he said.
"Just to be a part of Ohio State's football program, and to think about playing in the Michigan game - it's something special, something hard to put into words. If you get the opportunity to go to a powerhouse school like Ohio State, you can't go into it being picky about where you want to play. You just want to be part of something like that, in any role."
This needed to be populated in BP. My post from BN and I liked what Dane said about loving the game of football etc. Sorry Wad I drifted.

Track Times

During the Bill Krause Memorial Track meet in Tiffin Ohio, Dane Sanzenbacher was winning his events instead of watching the Spring Game in Columbus. Despite what must have been a difficult decision to miss the Spring Game, Dane ran a personal best in the 400 m with a winning 48.39 sec (faster than the 48.6 sec time posted at the State Meet last year), he also won the 200 m with a 22.15 as well running the anchor legs of the winning 800 and 1600 relays.

So hurry up and win those track events, the Buckeyes are waiting for you to join then this summer.

Times are posted in the toledoblade.com in Sunday's paper pg 8

I didn't realize Dane was that fast. Thats a smokin 400 time. I knew he had great hands and awesome route running but that speed added in spells Tony Gonzalez part 2. Can't wait to see him on the field.

Dane finished 4th at the state meet last year running a 48.60 (as UTGrad said). Unfortunately for Dane his future teammate will probably win the 400 again but he can definitely battle for 2nd if he gets his time under 48 (Glenville's Kyle Jefferson ran 47.80 last year for 2nd).

Great times at the mid-season mark, especially with the amount of meets that have been canceled for bad weather.

Brandon Saine won that with a 46.8 IIRC AND DANE WILL HAVE TO SPRINKLE TGII POWDER IN HIS SHOES TO MATCH THAT. IT'S GOOD THAT THEY'RE BOTH GOING TO THE SAME SCHOOL THIS YEAR.

If you ratio that 200 meter (218.7 yards) time at 22.15 sec with a 40 yard time, you get a result of 4.05 sec that he averaged over that distance. That's about 5.45 forties at 4.05 sec. Granted the first 40 may have been 4.5 sec or so, the rest of them where smokin.

You can play with the numbers for the 400 m (432.4 yards and change), you get an average 40 time of about 4.42 sec. That's 10.9 forties at 4.42 sec. I think I'd slow down a little at twice the distance. So, I offer this for debate and we can argue that if he's not TGII, he's certainly in the same class as Gonzo, Robo, or possibly Small.

Buckeye Sticker Sanzenbacher Track Update

http://toledoblade.com/apps/pbcs.dll...0453/-1/SPORTS

Dane ran a record setting 400 at the Knight Relays at St Francis HS Friday. He was also on the winning 440 shuttle hurdle team, 800 relay and 1600 relay teams. He was voted the meets outstanding track athlete.
Weather was a factor but despite the temperature and the drizzle, 10 of the 19 event records fell.

Quote:
Sanzenbacher, who has signed to play football at Ohio State University this fall, held off Strongsville's Kendall Gregory to win the 400 in a meet-record 48.66, just .06 off the time that earned him a fourth-place finish at last year's Division I state meet.

"I was just trying to keep my form at that point," Sanzenbacher said of his stretch run versus Gregory. "When you're at that point in the race, nobody is accelerating. Everybody's just trying to hold what they've got.

"This is a great meet. We look forward to running this one all year, just because the competition's so great here. It's a good meet before City's and districts. I wouldn't call [the weather] perfect, but it's not bad."
Keeping his form seems to be the norm rather than the exception. It may be too early to predict this but it would appear that Dane will RUN his way to Columbus again this year in advance of joining his teammates on the football field. State track meet is June 2. I think we can find him a ride to Columbus but we're going to have to catch him first.
Go Bucks.
