BSB - Bill Kurelic - 07/08/06
Dane is still leaning toward Ohio State; he could decide as soonn as tomorrow. |

A lot of guys that run fast 40's don't translate to fast guys on the football field. Just like comparing the 400 or 800 to the 40 isn't a perfect comparison neither is comparing a 40 on a track with no one chasing you to a 40 yd. pass reception with the ball in your hands and 11 guys trying to take your head off.
I watched the kid in a couple playoff games and the state championship game and he was always the fastest guy on the field. He is simply a player. If you have an opportunity to see film on him I think you will feel more comfortable with Dane. I would look at the timing of the offer differently...since they offered him this early, right after he camped with them, I feel they are extremely comfortable with him. The reaches come late in the game not early. |

What is more of a reach here...your assessment and stereotyping based on an offer list and 40 time or the staff's firsthand assessment? Good to see you are back to your typical negativity Rob... |

And according to Bill Conley, AJ Hawk was at best a D-II fullback and a serious reach by the staff. We all see how that turned out
![]() Give Dane and the OSU staff a little more credit Another name that comes to mind is Donnie Nickey. He was planning on going to OU until OSU offered him. He ended up starting 3-4 years here, winning a National Title, and got drafted by the Titans (?). |

At the beginning of the second senior camp, Tressel introduced Butch Reynolds to the large group of campers. He called out for Dane, asking him to share his time (acknowledging he was very fast for Ohio)... and then showed just how fast Butch's former world record time was.

Dane is a player... I saw him in the state championship game and he was by far the most impressive player on the field. His football speed is much faster than his listed 40-time and he is always open. He'll be a great asset to the WR corps here.

The 4.6 forty isn't accurate from what I've read, it's actually lower. Dane is (or would be) a nice addition to the team.
For Dane's future I'd predict... Maybe redshirt the first year. Then become a special teams demond for 1-2 years, then become a valuable contributor year 3 or 4 at WR, but most likely at safety. I don't know if his size is ideal for WR, but then again my cystal ball is quite cloudy 90 percent of the time. Last edited by goodguy; 07-08-2006 at 05:47 PM. |
