Then Dane appears with a first down possession catch for 9 yards. Then boom and another 9 yard catch. That's it, but they were clutch catches that kept the drives alive. Why not do a liitle more of that throughout the game. More ball control. Does anyone wonder why we don't throw more short passes, slants, and other short gainers? I think TB likes the long ball because he's got some great receivers in Hartline and Robo. I also think that TB likes to show off that arm and it is spectacular when he connects with his favorite receivers. Those short passes don't make the replays on ESPN but they get the job done and help win games.
Did they have Ray covered today too, along with Dane and Saine? They're freshman I know I know, one [censored]ing ball and that crap. He's earning his stripes, learning the plays, give him time. Well, just maybe the time has come and we don't need to wait until he's a Sophomore. He caught both short passes last week, both last week. Hey, do you think maybe if TB threw a few long balls to him he might catch them too? Then he might be say 4 for 4 and possibly add another TD. I have no doubt he would.
So go ahead and pick this apart, but this is why it a bitter sweet day for me. We win, the defense comes through once again to bail out an offense that could be that must better if we used the weapons we have.
Rant over, I said it. Let's see what we do with Penn State next week.

We really didn't need to involve Sanzenbacher or Saine. Wells was carrying the load. Your expectations are way too high for Sanzo. The fact that he's playing significant minutes as a true freshman is impressive enough. His time will come.

I know we have the depth to take care of things, the game was under control once we learned not to hand over the ball. Those significant minutes will pay off some day. Even MSU was impressed with our depth, Dane will have his day.

"It was frustrating, but Ohio State is a good team. We played hard and they played hard. Football is about inches and they got them today. They are just a really deep team."

Dane made some great sideline catches today. He didnt get alot of room to move but I know the one sliding catch was crucial for a first down and the other he showed some good elusiveness. His time will come. We spread it around a lot today.

We'll really see Dane alot when we play TSUN. Especially in spreading the field and rotating out fresh receivers. He'll make good in November.

the short slants and hitches are there when the other team is playing off the line. With MSU's agressiveness in the second half, we saw what can happen on the short passing game. Not enough protection for the QB, and some questionable decisions coming from qb.
It will get better. Sanzebacher is truly the X factor that will win us some big game yet this year.
He can do it all, including the direct snap.
Little less Mo Wells, Little less Ray Small (not showing much lately) and a little more Sane.
It's coming. I'm guessing he's happy with his year so far.

X-factor he is, or at least the potential is there for it. He's just earning some stripes now and gaining experience every week. I think he must be very happy right now with the amount of PT he's logged. Anyone that know's him from HS knows what he can do when the pressure is on. This is CFB now and someone turned up the pressure dial. Playing for a #1 team and growing in experience every week is huge. Patience UTgrad, patience. His time will come.
Regarding the youth on this team, someone here mentioned that they are just one season past a HS bus ride. Sobering thought when you consider how well they are playing now and that the depth chart has about 9 or 10 freshmen that would fit that "bus ride" image. So, I dug deep and found this interview from Dec '06 with Dane and BCSN's Tom Cole.
Mature words from a young Buck indeed! The play action was from last year's TCC game against St Francis.

Wanted to highlight Dane's excellent downfield blocking, leaving Beanie to run wild on his reverse of field.
