Much has been expected of junior Ray Small (5-11, 180), who came to Ohio State from the same high school (Cleveland Glenville) as former star Ted Ginn, Jr. He had a few highlight moments last season, but 20 catches and two touchdowns was underwhelming. Small is being pushed hard by several younger players, most notably sophomores Dane Sanzenbacher (5-11, 175) and Taurian Washington (6-2, 179). Sanzenbacher played a fair amount last season and proved steady and reliable, with 12 catches. Washington did not see much action, but in the spring, he emerged as a deep threat with a smooth stride.
ESPN - Team preview: Ohio State - College Football

This link can also be found in the 2008 Buckeye football season thread. Dane is described as steady and reliable, hope that continues in '08 and beyond.

Receivers: The receiving corps came through as well as could be hoped for after losing Ted Ginn and Anthony Gonzalez, with Robiskie and Hartline growing into a nice combination. There's plenty of experience returning with promising backups who got their feet wet last year, and two excellent tight ends in Rory Nicol and Jake Ballard an unappreciated twosome who should be used more in the passing game. This group will be held in check by the top secondaries, but there aren't a lot of them in the Big Ten. It's nitpicking, but there will be a problem if there's a rash of injuries. There's plenty of promise behind Robiskie and Hartline, but Dane Sanzenbacher and Taurian Washington haven't had to do it yet in a full-time role, while Ray Small can't seem to put it all together.
FOX Sports on MSN - COLLEGE FOOTBALL - Expectations run high for Ohio State-

Dane and Taurian will give us plenty to watch this year and get the much needed reps and so will Jake and Posey. The undiscovered country...

It'd be nice to see Dane some in and step up. I'm really wishing Ray Small would reach his potential. Robiskie-Hartline-Small-Sanz-Washington, 5-wide set...? Hmmmmm....

I agree, I see both Ray Small and Jam'O as probably the two most underachieving players for the hype they got coming out high school, let alone a powerhouse like the Glennville Program.

As stated by other posters, one players mistakes is another players time to shine. Sazenbacher ( We really gotta get this guy a nickname!) is a burner who can go deep and also has great hand. He will turn into one of our most reliable wideouts by this time next season. He could turn into something special that came in a bit under the radar ala Gonzalez.

At least they're still here and trying to make it. A few highly touted players have come and gone without seeing the field hardly at all: SirJo Welch, Lennix, Irrizary, B. Underwood, and Clifford, off the top of my head.

I've heard "Sanzo". It's obvious, but it works. Also, "Great Dane", but it's a little early for that.

Well, Underwood came in a little low, he was only a three star (Rivals) with the biggest offers being OSU, ND, and PSU. Lennix never made it into OSU. But you have a point on Welch, Clifford and Izzary.

But, Ill quit rambling off topic. As for nicknames, I do like "Sanzo". Quick, easy to get out and not as corny as "Great Dane."

Give Dane another season and this board will be lighting up. I'm that sure. He has this knack for getting open, finding the seam. I think the TWash and Dane combination with Stoney and Posey as backups to the backups will be a force this year. They all need touches and there is just one football. The Great Dane was a nickname Dane picked up in HS, he hasn't earned that yet in CFB, the other names I heard were Scoot (coined by Brian Hartline), and Sanzo (the obvious meld of Sanzenbacher and Gonzo). I don't care what we call him as long as his name has TD behind it. Here's to a successful '08 season.

cchs07_tosu11 could go either way
lol He hates "Great Dane"

I like Sanzo though. We never used that one.

Playing highway to the DANEger zone was always a good experience in the student section though haha.
