BN Free--Offensive Notebook: Brewster New Center Of Attention

I'm no O-line connoisseur but it looked to me like he was holding his own out there. I'm sure the Brew Crew name will soon make its way to the national media shortly now that he and TP are both starting.

I saw Shugarts out there as well. I love seeing young talent on the O-Line. Now lets gets some youngins on the D Line for the future.

I loved on the 3rd and 1 run in the first quarter, first drive how Michael made a push, and the reached out with his arm to try and slow down a rushing LB

I don't think it made a lick of difference on the play, but it was an added effort I haven't seen much of lately. Plus it was nice to see him low on the ground, not standing straight up 2 yards in the backfield on a short yardage situation

Probably because I played center from fourth grade on, there are few things in life that give me as much joy as to watch a center with a nasty streak just ruin a DL or LB's day. I salute you Mr. Brewster. I think I may be trying to find a #50 jersey before the season is over.

The QB sneak we had on 3rd and short on the first drive was ridiculous. I think we got about 3 yards on that play. Great push by the o line

According to Rivals there is no #50 on USC this year.


To start this early in his career coming off an injury is very impressive.

The freshman, one of the more ballyhooed of the 2008 recruiting class, earned his first start for Ohio State last week and played to stellar reviews in just his fourth college game. Quarterback Terrelle Pryor? Yeah, him too. But this is about center Michael Brewster, the fellow who flawlessly snapped the ball to Pryor and made some nice blocks along the way.
To get to play center so quickly as a freshman, "that's crazy," said regular center Jim Cordle, who started at left guard. "I didn't start until my third year, and I was probably more nervous than he was. He had a little bit of a comfort shell with me out there next to him, but he settled in and we did OK."
Brewster's start was partly happenstance. Senior left guard Steve Rehring suffered a sprained left foot in the loss at Southern California, and during the week leading up to the game with Troy, offensive coordinator Jim Bollman moved Cordle to left guard and elevated Brewster to starter.

Yeah Mike brewster is a real pleaantt surprise and I just can't help that these offensive lines are really loaded with great talent and yet the news medias continue to pound at us, on HOW SLOW we are. I hope all of this will come to an end someday. Why does the offensive line get tagged with such critiscism

Didn't you see how they played against USC?

My guess is that the media will stop pounding on the offensive line when they play up to their potential in the "big games".

Note: Most sports reporters (and media) believe that they have to pound on something in order to make a name for themself (and to sell more papers/increase number of viewers).
