Saw this posted by FatherJohn over on GBW and thought it would be cool (didn't see anything like this here so far)...the game is called LoTwo (his was LoTrio, using three games instead of two like below).
It only involves picking two games each week, but you pick the exact score, not the winner. We would run the contest with the
OSU game one of the three every week and the other game would either be a Big Ten game or something else that may be interesting (like if there is a #1 vs #2 game or something like that).
The final score of each team is what you will be picking.
The object will be to get the least amount of points applying the below formula, which works on the difference between your predicted score and the actual score...for example:
You pick a final score of 17-10 for team A vs. B. The actual score is 13-21. First you will get the difference of team A, which would be 4 (17 minus 13), then the difference of team B, which would be 11 (21-10). Adding the two will give you your score for that game, which would be 15.
You will get a -5 point bonus for correctly getting one of the scores correct and a -25 bonus for a perfect score prediction (-5 bonus points each for both correct scores and an additional -15 bonus points)...remember, the object is to have the
least amount of points.
So in the same example, if the actual score is 17-21, you would get a -5 for the correct pick of 17 for team A and a 10 for the difference of team B, giving you a total of 5 for that game.
You will not be so much concerned over who wins the game, but how close you come to getting that teams actual final score.
We could run this each week that
OSU plays. Weekly winners would get 25,000 points (in case of ties, everyone would still get the full amount). The season winner would get 100,000 points and an award icon (once those are available again).
Thoughts?
EDIT: I made it to where not only does the weekly winner get 25,000, but second place gets 10,000, and third place gets 5,000.
