I'm on Memorial Tournament duty this week, but I ran into former OSU receiver Anthony Gonzalez today, who has been a member at Muirfield Village since 2007.

Of course, we talked a little football. He's very high on the potential of sophomore receiver DeVier Posey.

Like everyone else, he likes Posey's size and speed combination. But he mentioned that Posey has the right attitude, that he's eager to learn and has an attention to detail that's impressive for a young player.

All the talk in Buckeye land is about whether their defense can withstand the losses of James Laurinaitis, Marcus Freeman, and Malcolm Jenkins. Personally, I think the defense will be better without them.

The real question is, who can step up at WR for the Bucks?

I like the article. DeVier has the tools to be a #1 reciever and future 1st rounder, but was this necessary....?

Any news on how Posey is progressing this summer? Probably more excited about seeing DeVier get more time on the field than any other player this upcoming season.

No. 19: Sophomore receiver DeVier Posey

Ohio State receivers coach Darrell Hazell said it more than once - Posey has all the tools to be a star. Size, speed, hands - he's a perfect package for a wide receiver. And a year ago, I was waiting with a lot of OSU fans for him to come on. And it never really happened.

Posey caught 11 passes for 117 yards, his only touchdown coming in the first game against Youngstown State. Generally, he played like a freshman, which is a fine thing for a freshman to do. Asked why Posey wasn't playing more during the season, Hazell mentioned all the finer points of a receiver's job, and Posey wasn't doing them all yet.

That's why he's not higher on this list. But if you tell me today he's going to catch 40 passes for 600 yards, I won't doubt it. Senior safety Kurt Coleman said how good Posey was at going up and getting balls during 7-on-7 drills, but he also insisted that junior Dane Sanznebacher is the No. 1 receiver. And I'm not sure about Sanzenbacher either, as you'll see later on the list, as you try to imagine him as a go-to guy instead of a complementary piece.

So Posey might be lower than he should be, though you could probably argue him off this list as well. Based on potential, he's a top-10 pick, and based on need, he's probably there, too. If Terrelle Pryor is going to progress as a thrower, he needs targets that can get open, and Posey should be the most dangerous receiver on the field.

But will he be the most productive?

I would. Those #'s are pretty low for a #1 receiver.

No Monday Morning Blues for Posey

For DeVier Posey, Monday morning cannot come fast enough.

While the rest of his Ohio State teammates are trying to soak up the final weekend before the dreaded start of two-a-day practices next week, Posey is simply killing time.

After three months away from the Gridiron, the Buckeyes officially opened fall camp at the start of last week, but Posey is still waiting for his first real taste of live action this fall. Expected to be OSU?s No. 1 receiver in 2009, Posey spent most of week one as a spectator after tweaking his hamstring two weeks ago while doing one-on-ones with his brother Julian "Joonie" Posey, a defensive back at Ohio University.

"He and I were getting a little extra work in over the break and I tweaked my hamstring," Posey said. "But it's not too serious. I'll be out there Monday."

Now in his second season at Ohio State, Posey witnessed first-hand just how devastating hamstring injuries can be when he watched running back Brandon Saine miss all 29 practices last fall with his injury.

"(I am) just trying to be smart because hamstring can sneak up on you and I really don?t want a problem to reoccur at the end of September and it?ll be gone for a month when I can just take a week right now and it will be gone for forever," he said.

As a 6-foot-3, 205-pound wideout with speed, Posey certainly looks the part of a No. 1 receiver. Now Buckeye fans are waiting to see if he can play like one.

More in the mold of David Boston than Ted Ginn Jr., Posey caught 11 balls for 117 yards and a touchdown last season as a freshman, but without Robiskie and Brian Hartline around, the opportunities should come fast and furious for Posey and the other young receivers in 2009.

"I?m excited for our whole corps," Posey said.

"A bunch of us didn?t get to play too much, you only saw action from a couple guys, but we?re all excited to show our talents."

This team has a lot of guys who are easy to like, and Devier Posey is definitely one of them. I only know him from interviews like this, but he comes across as being thoroughly Tressellized.

Do we know the status of DeVier? I would imagine that his role will increase dramatically this week if he is healthy.

He had an excellent game going in the first quarter including a nice down filed block that helped TP pick up a few extra yards and then just disappeared. Given the two drops by Washington I have to think we'll see more of DeVier and Carter this week.
