Ohio State's offense has been warned that if Toledo sticks to its defensive game plan under first-year coach Tim Beckman, it's going to launch blitzing Rockets at quarterback Terrelle Pryor.

If the Buckeyes adjust properly, that could mean big things today for the passing game, especially sophomore receiver DeVier Posey.

"They've got coach Beck, who used to coach here, so he definitely knows the good angles to come at Ohio State," Posey said. "Plus, it's in Cleveland Browns Stadium, so that's going to be a really good time."

Last week in a loss to Southern California, Posey had six catches for 81 yards. It was a breakout performance after he was seldom used as a freshman.

"I think DeVier is another guy who has come along a lot, and sometimes I forget that he is only a true sophomore," junior receiver Dane Sanzenbacher said. "He's one of those guys like Terrelle, who you kind of forget their age with all they've been able to do and produce."

A minor injury put Posey, 6 feet 3 and 200 pounds, on the sideline early in the season opener against Navy, though he'd already caught two passes.

"I think him getting knocked out of the first game really upset him," Sanzenbacher said. "As much as he wanted to play, I think he knew he needed to get himself right for (the USC game), and I think he performed well."

Perhaps, Posey said. But it was the offense's inability to produce much in the second half that dominated his thoughts.

"As a whole, we just need to get better, get our rhythm better," Posey said. "We need to get better as a whole offense. I feel like I played OK, but I think I could have played a lot better. I feel like we had it, we just needed to finish."

Sophomore receiver DeVier Posey had five catches for 46 yards, including a 4-yard touchdown pass from Terrelle Pryor midway through the fourth quarter for the Buckeyes' final score. When asked how he could tell whether the offense was clicking, Posey delivered the line of the day.

"When the offense is clicking, I feel tired," Posey said.

Posey is oozing with potential. The thing I like most about him is the way he carries himself on and off the field. I am expecting him to put up a 6-8 catch, 100+ yard game very soon. Once Pryor and him start clicking this offense is going to explode.

Someone said he had 4 drops Saturday? I remember the one in the endzone that was knocked away. Hard to say he had an "off" game. He led all receivers.

In desperate times, DeVier Posey became the receiver of choice a week ago in Ohio State's failed fourth-quarter rally at Purdue. But that doesn't mean the sophomore expects to see even more passes from quarterback Terrelle Pryor thrown his way today when the Buckeyes play host to Minnesota.

"Whatever my team needs me to do, I'll do it." Posey said. "If that's catching passes, or if it's blocking downfield for Terrelle when he's running, or cracking back on a play after Ray (Small catches a pass) -- I'll do it."

What the Buckeyes needed the 6-foot-3 receiver to do last week was make catches, and he pulled in a career-high nine. That total included a 25-yard Hail Mary fling from a pressured Pryor for a fourth-quarter touchdown that pulled OSU within striking distance.

Posey stepped up even though the Boilermakers were focused on stopping him. The first-year starter said his increasing experience level had a lot to do with his increased production.

"I feel like I'm getting a little more comfortable," said Posey, who leads OSU receivers with 30 catches for 355 yards and four touchdowns. "I'm still the same age, but I feel like I'm getting a lot more mature at my position and getting older as far as seeing things, and things I talk about with coach (Darrell) Hazell. I feel like my maturity level is growing week by week."

That's a good thing, considering that the Minnesota defense probably was taking notes. Just as the OSU defense will key on the Gophers' leading receiver, Eric Decker, Minnesota is expected to do the same with Posey.

"I'm not really sure what Minnesota is going to do; all I can do is do the best I can," Posey said.

Hopefully TP and Posey can connect on some of those slants again this week. They were taking up easy chunks of yards and DeVier is bound to break something loose for a big gainer.

Glad to see him get in the endzone. Could have/should have had 2 more touchdowns. Best way to help your buddy out is catching those balls!
