OSU football: Posey has pocketful of catches
Receiver comfortable after last year's discomfort on bench

By Tim May
THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH
DeVier Posey has proved in the past four weeks that he's better at catching than sitting.
Posey, a sophomore receiver for Ohio State, has 24 catches in that time for four touchdowns, including a 62-yard TD catch last week in a 24-7 win at Penn State. Headed into a game Saturday against Iowa with a trip to the Rose Bowl on the line, Posey probably sits atop the Hawkeyes' pass-defense tip sheet.
"Whatever happens, I feel like I'll be ready," Posey said. "If it's double coverage, then I'll have to be ready for that. If it is normal single coverage, I'll have to beat that. If it's helping somebody else get open, I'm ready for that."
Just as long as he's playing, he's fine. Having to sit out most of last season was not his idea of a good time
"It was probably the second-hardest thing in my life as far as playing football," Posey said. (The hardest was not getting to play with the varsity his sophomore season at Cincinnati LaSalle.) "But I felt like I paid my dues and learned a lot last year."
Some recruiting analysts thought that Posey had a chance to excel as a freshman, much as A.J. Green at Georgia and Julio Jones at Alabama did.
The other two leapt onto the national scene, but Posey was stuck behind returning receivers Brian Robiskie and Brian Hartline. Plus, "I needed to learn a lot, and I needed to mature," he said.
"Going through last year, being able to be behind the Brians, and be able to watch guys like (former Ohio State receivers) Ted Ginn and Santonio Holmes on film, and being able to learn under (assistant) coach (Darrell) Hazell really took my game to another level. I really needed last year."

Posey no poseur as Buckeyes’ top receiver

Jim Naveau, The Lima News
COLUMBUS — DeVier Posey has the quick feet. He established that when he won the Division I 400-meter dash state title in 2008.
Good hands? He showed that in Ohio State’s first four games this season and with the 11 catches he had last year as a freshman.
But in OSU’s last six games, he has confirmed that he is what the Buckeyes’ coaches thought he was when they recruited him — a No. 1 receiver.
Posey, a 6-foot-3, 205-pound sophomore from Cincinnati LaSalle High School, has caught touchdown passes in five of the Buckeyes’ last six games. In the one he didn’t have a TD catch, he threw a 39-yard touchdown pass to Dane Sanzenbacher.
Posey has 45 catches for 672 yards and 7 touchdowns this season. He has a catch of 20 yards or more in each of the last six games and three for more than 50 yards.
