Football: A crowd on 28,000 showed up tonight at Ohio Stadium for the night practice and autograph session. Line were long for autographs, but the Buckeyes started a half-hour early and signed for an hour-and-a-half giving fans time to get around and get signatures.
The practice itself was spirited but relatively uneventful. It was a fundamental practice with just a bit of limited-contact 11-on-11 competition. Quarterback Justin Zwick, who was injured in the jersey scrimmage, was able to take part in all drills. Todd Boeckman, however, did not throw at all. According to Jim Tressel, Boeckman also was slightly injured in the jersey scrimmage but is expected to back in action quickly.
In other personnel notes, Tressel indicated the Chad Hoobler has left the team for personal reasons. Also, Mike D'Andrea was on the sidelines but not in uniform for the practice.

If you say Thoma was there also, the other two guys must have been Johnson and Lukens.

Johnson I could believe, but the other guy didn't look small enough be to Lukens, more like a lineman than a db/wr
i'll take some pics of the sigs and see if yall can figure them out.

I am assuming it was thoma, there is only one 48 on the roster that I could find, the kid looked of asian heritage ( not that it would matter just as a descriptor).

25-30k looked like a reasonable estimate. The band played for the last hour.

Robert Rose will be in the two-deep very soon and see a lot of time. For someone that hasn't played much football he's pretty damn solid. The backup OL stood no chance in two-minute drills.

Jenkins and Mitchell were the two DB's exclusively with the ones. At corner Smith started out but Washington quickly took over and looked pretty solid. Looked to me like Smith and Amos were the twos most of the time. Coleman had a great pick-six on Zwick. At safety Patterson probably played more than half the time with the ones, with Russell getting the other half. Both looked good. Russell was playing the nickel in some situations. Tough to say which will win the starting spot. O'Neal looked good with the twos but I guess he still needs to learn the system???

Pettrey stood out to me as a better kicker than Pretorious. Both looked good from 40 and in - I didn't see a miss by either. Pettrey definitely has the better leg. Both attempted a 53-54 yarder. Pretorious yanked it left and short, Pettrey put it right down the middle. At the end Pretorious tried another 50+ yarder which was straight but short again. On kickoffs Pretorious was usually 0-2 yards into the endzone, Pettrey 5-8 yards deep. For whatever reason though Pretorious was kicking with the ones today.

CWells and MWells were both playing with the twos at times. MW looks bigger than last year and had some good runs, but missed one or two passes. CW looked to be the better back, but some times had to be told where to line up. IMO once he gets the system down he'll be the #2. He had a ridiculous carry in the red zone drill. He took it off left tackle, had nothing, brought it all the way back right and wasn't touched until around the 5 yard line. He also looked good in pass pro.

I'm sure I'll think of more, but those are my initial thoughts.

Well i went, i arrived at the shoe at 1:30 and waited it out, i was about the 15-20th person in the line and around 5:45 all these people just showed and desided to cut everyone it was redicuious, it was unorganized and i was told the wrong line for autographs i was told i was at the Tressel, Smith, and Gonzo table when really i was at the Freeman, Oneal, Dukes, Henton, and 2 other nobodys.....i didnt get 1 signature i wanted and it was worthless....

I guess i will wait for smith and ginn to come to a mall somewhere.......wow Ohio state needs to fix these things....

Roy Hall caught everything thrown his way.
A lot of dropped balls that hit WR's in the hands.
Coleman looks good.
Gibson looks like a stud and played well.
RB's all looked sharp.
Gonzo was just being Gonzo.
Hartline looks like a mini-Gonzo but much taller.
JamO played tough in 1-on-1 drills.
A. Smith did not stand out much at corner.
Rose/Wilson brought big pressure from the ends.
Kerr looks like "Rudi" out there at LB compared to the rest of the D.
Curtis Terry Sr. was running with the 3's quite a bit.
Gholston was playing the LB spot quite a bit ala Carp.
Ray Small stood out.
TE's did not do much. From the showing tonight, get the feeling they won't be much of a part of this year's offense.
Barton and Boone are very lean.

I think it was somewhat of a spur of the moment thing, and an unexpected turnout for the recent announcement. While it was very unorganized, it was very nice overall.
I also waited it out in the long line at the North end, but was able to put 2 and 2 together to figure out where to be for the autograph session.
Hope they make a habit of it each year. I'm sure it's a good opportunity for several fans to enjoy something they're not used to by being at the Shoe. Tickets are a difficult thing for many to come by.

You're not really entitled to anything. Regardless, you got some great players' autographs. Many, many people would love to have Freeman, O'Neal, and Henton. Be happy.
