I would take anyone over Bellisari.

Although I really like Germaine as a quarterback, I think Gamble deserves the #7. He was the key to that great defense by shutting down everyone's number one reciever.

Well it looks like for now we have a consensus vote that Bellisari should not be the best #8, I apologize first and foremost for even suggesting this! The question is, should it be Jackson or Olive?

I'll create a poll for each number revealed so that everyone here can more easily express their opinions on which buckeye should be considered the best to ever wear a particular number. I'll also make the changes to the lists after the polls close to reflect the buckeye consensus! However, I'd like to keep the discussions in these threads going if possible. Anyone have anything to add to the 3 revealed lists so far? Mistakes that I might have made? Any info about the players you'd like to add?

Finally I updated the 2005 guys' stats and made changes to the others to reflect the changes, as well as added #6 K Pat O'Morrow and changed #8 to WR Bobby Olive for now.

All lists are now up to date for the upcoming season.

Crap, I just wrote this big long post, and for some reason it wouldn't let me post it. I'm sure it's user-error, but whatever...

Anyways, the point of my post was that even though I'm obviously in the minority, I like Bellisari as the best #8.

- First of all, he was putting together a solid senior year. The Buckeyes were showing promise that season (with rough loses to Wisky and PSU) before he got busted for the DUI. I was starting to see a solid QB in Bellisari.

- His UCLA game was awesome in his sophomore year! He totally decked a DE on a reverse that got the entire crowd pumped up. Also, on a couple long pass plays, he sprinted down field to help the receiver up and give him a pat on the back. You can argue that he stunk as a passer, but the guy had heart and leadership.

- In his freshman season, he was a one-man wrecking crew on special teams - especially punt coverage. I told a buddy of mine before the '98 Michigan game to keep his eye on #8 in punt coverage, and sure enough, Steve seemed to make every tackle in that game. My buddy was amazed that a backup QB could be such a good athlete.

Granted, the 3 years of Bellisari at QB were rough, but I really felt for the guy. He was 100% heart and determination, and he was starting to turn things around. I was a little embarassed that Buckeye fans forced a 20 year old to go through the crap that SB had to endure. Not that CK wasn't a nice change in the following 2 years, but I'd like to see SB stay as the best #8 until someone more deserving comes along.

I feel ya on all of that, great reasoning, and alot of that was why I originally had him as the best #8. I myself have gone back and fourth on the Bellisari issue, I had originally planned on putting Stanley at the spot, then after a few days of researching and thinking about it I finally settled on Bellisari.

However, if you notice in one of my threads for this project, I have stated that I'll be posting some polls for the more difficult #'s to pick from, including #8, so SB will definitley get a shot at reclaiming #8's throne. We'll see what happens and hopefully some more people will get involved to make these choices a little more representing of the entire buckeye nation!

I think the idea of a poll is great, but I think we both know how that will turn out for Bellisari.

He's the QB everyone loves to hate. He has the unlucky timing of being squeezed between the QB with the most 300 yard games ever at OSU and a QB who beat Michigan twice and won a NC. Then throw into the mix that his receivers were over-rated punks, the running backs were very forgettable, and the defenses in that span were average at best. He's screwed.

But, he'll get my vote.
