Characterizing the OSU offense
Descriptions of the "style" of offense used by OSU recently (probably starting with late 2004) as being a "spread offense", a "read-option offense", "not a pro style offense", abound. Do you agree? What style of offense would you characterize OSU as using?

erratic, opportunistic, steady, close to the vest, wide open, all the above.
Erratic in that there are one or two games each season when our protection isn't very good and the QB has to scramble 15 times for 30 yards and we end up losing by less than a td; opportunistic in that we play to the individual strengths of our key players and the collective weakness of our opponents; steady because our opponents know full well what they need to do to stop us offensively, yet most of the time they can't; close to the vest, but only when we have a sizeable lead; wide open meaning Tressel trusts Troy's ability to create, it's up to Troy to not cough it up as often as he did.

Here's a question: Is this the most complex the OSU offense has EVER been, this early in the season?
IMHO, it's the most complex I've seen (at least this early). I've been watching since '68.

I'm not sure, but I was very impressed at the number of formations the team just used in the second game of the season.
