I'll add that there is no downside for Texas if OSU comes into Austin ranked #1, so I wouldn't be upset about it.

xray--I'm wondering where you'd put UT in the preseason poll. FWIW, I'm not a complete homer, as I think that as much as we lost on defense, including the likelihood of 4 first round NFL draft picks, I'd put us between 5-10, probably at #8.

The schedule isn’t all that bad, Iowa is certainly beatable this year in Iowa City, and the defense should come around by the end of the year. The offense will carry the D for a while.

This is exactly what I've been saying...

Which is not the case if we leave Austin ranked #1, eh?

Per SI (note - they did not rank tOSU 3, this was the 3rd of 10 questions in college FB this year):
3. Who will be the new faces of Ohio State's defense?
It's not often you see a team lose nine starters on one side of the ball yet remain on the short list of national title contenders. Part of that is the buzz associated with Troy Smith, Ted Ginn Jr. and the rest of the Buckeyes' offense, but it also shows the deep confidence most people have in OSU's ability to reload. Indeed, included among the projected "new" starters are two fifth-year linebackers, Mike D'Andrea and John Kerr (a transfer who was a freshman standout at Indiana), who we've been hearing about for years. At other positions, however, most notably in the secondary, youngsters who have played sparingly will have to blossom into stars immediately if the Bucks hope to remain dominant on D. Among those who will be getting a hard look this spring: defensive end Lawrence Wilson, linebacker James Laurinaitis and defensive backs Malcom Jenkins and Jamario O'Neal.

Top five in preseason. i want UT to be ranked #1 and tOSU #2, when we go in there are rip them of that statis. there are some amazing players coming in and some amzing players were standing on the sidelines learning from the seniors last year. the offense will carry the team for a few games, but the defense will catch up!
