The Ohio State University - a reason or arrogance?

I am a military member stationed in <st1:country-region><st1 ="">England</st1></st1:country-region>. Working with fans from a multitude of different team, I get to see a consensus of what the perception of Ohio State Football is outside of BuckeyeNation. The perception I get is that we are arrogant (Mainly from one word “THE”) and that we are dirty. The dirty part has been hashed, rehashed and hashed some more since the ESPiN and MoC incidents, so I don’t even want to touch that one. We all know that perception is falsely laden. I want to talk about the first one. Arrogance. I have always been a huge Buckeye fan. However once I enlisted and left home my love for the Buckeyes intensified. It wasn’t just my beloved Scarlet and Gray anymore. It was also my attachment to home. When I couldn’t get home on leave, I always had 3 months where, every Saturday I could feel like I was back home again. This was especially true when I was deployed to the desert shortly after the 2002 National Championship game. The memories of that season along with the Season Recap DVD a friend sent me helped me through some tough times over there. This was also true again when I was sent over here to <st1:country-region><st1 ="">England</st1></st1:country-region>, the Blackhole for College Football. This brings me to my question. I don’t see it as arrogance so much as I see it as a passion and devotion to something near and dear to home and my heart. However, most fans over here watch Monday Night Football and watch Mike Doss say “THE <st1 =""><st1 ="">Ohio</st1><st1 =""> State</st1> <st1 ="">University</st1></st1>” and think it is Arrogance and a condescending nature that comes across. I was curious if this was the perception as a whole back home or if this is just a product of the lack of decent College football coverage over here. I see it as nothing more than Buckeye Pride. They however see it as another excuse to trash the University and Football program I love. I would appreciate your thoughts from back home.

I live in mid-georgia. Its rather funny down here. People talk at work about southern football all the time. yet, i see nowhere near the passion as the great lakes region. Saying The Ohio State University isnt arrogant, it is the name of the university. The word THE is pronounced with a long e at the end because that is correct pronunciation. When the word after the word the(stay with me here) begins with a vowel sound, you say it with a long e.

BTW, we are better than them.

scUM fans say MSU fans are arrogant
MSU fans say Purdue fans are arrogant
Purdue fans say Ohio State fans are arrogant....

Alright my friend, I'm guessing you are a fellow Air Force member being stationed in England. I spent 3 years at Lakenheath myself (98-01). I was an unabashed Buckeye fan there my hole time (even in the lean years). And yes, I think a lot of people see Buckeye fans as arrogant. As we should be. We have plenty to be proud of. I don't see us as any more arrogant than any given SEC school fan, or any Oklahoma fan, or any other Div 1 fan. It's all a matter of perception. So fly that Scarlett and Grey proudly, and know that we all have your back .

The official name of the school is The Ohio State University. We're proud of it. Period.
