3rd down bell

I was watching some old home games today. When the 3rd down bell chimes (AC/DC- BAck in Black) it get s me wound up. The players seem to really react to it too.

Anyway, it got me thinking...is that something that is Ohio State's, or does it happen at other stadiums?


And please, nobody even compare it to that annoying Nitany Lion roar!

That song has been used by other stadiums and sports...San Diego used it in the '90s when their famous bullpen closer (can't recall his name) came in. I've heard a couple times in other venues...

Trevor Hoffman.

Hells Bells is commonly used in sports, but I can't recall anybody else that sounds the bell on third downs.

That is what I was wondering. It is notorius in the Shoe on 3rd downs to get the defense fired up, but I don't know of any other team that does that.

I must admit, that bell is pretty badass. It's pretty much an instant boost for the crowd, especially in a big game.

I've got a fever.....and the only prescription is some more 3rd down hells bells.

Im sure if you were a PSU fan you'd love it. I am not one, but when the sun goes down and I take my scarlet shades off i'll admit to admiring it.

maybe we should come up with a sound by dropping a bunch of nuts on the floor as our 3rd down shoutout.

Are you serious? They play that stupid roar seemingly every play. Annoying as hell if you ask me.

i forget where it was, but it may have even been a highschool team we played, or in browns stadium where i heard it on 3rd downs.. brought back good memories

They just use it too much. Hell, if the waterboy successfully hydrates the player during a timeout, they will give him 5 minutes of the lion roar.

According to Wikipedia (Hells Bells) the Oakland Raiders also play the bells during important defensive plays, especially 3rd and 4th downs.

Yeah, certainly not just an Ohio State thing, but sweet nonetheless. Seahawks have some bell/chime sounding thing on 3rd downs as well.

Love hearin' that bell, especially when it comes on early during the huddle, and the other team lines up back deep in their own territory and the crowd is going crazy, our defense shows blitz and they have to audible but can't cause they don't hear [censored]...and when the ball is snapped their play breaks down and and their QB is sacked for a SAFETY!! YEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHH!!!!!

I was at the Indiana game last year and they were playing the bell sound but it was really funny because the guy in the sound booth kept screwing up and playing it on the wrong downs. You can tell they don't watch a lot of football there .
