When Was The Last Time...

Ohio State lost to a team with a freshman quarterback?

Ohio State was ranked in the top five and lost to a team with a freshman quarterback?

A Jim Tressel-coached team lost to a team with a freshman quarterback?

With all the fear I'm hearing about Texas, Colt McCoy's inexperience is being grossly overlooked. Everybody on our D has more experience than him. While I saw some missed OSU defensive assignments Saturday, I saw speed, overwhelming talent and big play-ability against an experienced QB and one of the top tailbacks in the country. McCoy might have a lot of weapons, but he's not going to be sitting back there drinking coffee and eating donuts when we get to town. Can you imagine the scheme Heacock is planning for this kid? I have no question the offense will do it's part. OSU 31 - Texas 20.

This isn't your average "team with a freshman QB" though.
We did beat scUM w/ Henne as a freshman (and at the end of the year, not his second game) when we were having a "down" year.
I just hope we can stop the run and give McCoy the chance to make some mistakes.

I think the VAST difference in level of play at the QB position will be the difference for us.
Plus, we have Ted Ginn and they don't.

They are going to do a lot of screen passes and runs. That so happens to be our D's weakness

I agree, screen passes and misdirections are something we will see all season long. For us to win our Defensive line will have to be able to get consistent pressure on the QB without blitz help. The secondary, and the LB's are too green for us to be blitzing like we did last year. The raw talent is there, but I saw missed tackles, and missed assignments that led to some of NIU's big plays. I would look for JT to play more zone to try to prevent big plays.

What class was the QB that replaced the Wisky QB in 2003, after Robert Reynolds choked the starting QB in a pile?

That's exactly what we're going to see. Texas has had some great teams under Mack Brown that couldn't get over the hump because of the lack of a dynamic quarterback. Is the Texas team surrounding McCoy better than 2003 when they had Cedric Benson, Roy Williams and Blaylock on offense but had Chance Mock (backed up by Young) delivering the ball? Huff, Griffin and Co. were on D. That team crushed New Mexico State 66-7 in their opener only to be convincingly beat by Arkansas in their own house 38-28. Four weeks later they were mauled by then #1 Oklahoma 65 to 13. Jason White and Mark Clayton killed them. Texas ended up 10-3 after losing to Washington State in the Holiday Bowl.

You could go to 2004 with Young at the helm when they once again destroyed North Texas 65-0 only to then eke out a win against Arkanas 22-20, losing again to Oklahoma, then barely getting by Missouri, Kansas and Michigan.

Then look at last year when anybody who watched objectively knows we would haver beaten them convincingly if we didn't shoot ourselves in the foot. This year Troy Smith knows more than half the playbook. If Pete Carroll hadn't gone predictable and faked the ball to LenDale White on that critical 4th down, we wouldn't even be talking about them as National Champions. My blind grandmother knew White was going to get it.

This Saturday will be a pleasure to watch. I don't think anyone can call this Texas team great without Vince Young... at least not yet.

Keep in mind, that wasn't your average tailback running the ball yesterday.......Wolfe made a lot of those plays on his own.
