Probably because King was still wearing his helmet. Let's give Datish props for being cool under pressure, and for having a bit of common sense.
Mitch King is the very definition of a bush league player. It's surprising that Golden Boy Kirk Ferentz tolerates that kind of crap from his players ... then again, maybe it isn't.

But when someone says, "Ohio State's opponents rarely get called for holding," a response of, "But Ohio State leads the Big Ten in sacks," is a spearate issue. If there's any correlation between the two stats, I could see it to be that either
1. Ohio State opponents truly rarely hold Ohio State's defense, and Ohio State is able to get sacks easily, and the officials are calling the game properly,
or
2. Ohio State opponents aren't holding properly, and Ohio State is STILL getting the sacks.
Other than that, I think the conversation is going off on a tangent if you bring up defensive stats when someone says that Ohio State doesn't get the calls.

OK, I went off on a small tangent (like that's never happened on BP before) even though that tangent is related to this thread... my post was directed at this part of NightmareDad's post: "With our almost unblockable D-Line?" I in no way insinuated the officials are giving OSU's opponents "a hand"... I merely pointed out (with stats) that even though very few holding penalties are being called (as evidenced by some of the video links in this thread) the DLine is still producing big results... nothing more, nothing less.

After watching Greenway against NW last year...no, it isn't.

Conversations, in general, would get pretty boring if they never went anywhere. You need to take the tangents, sometimes. (But only when they lead down paths that are interesting to me.)
Anyway, you're right in that it's awesome that Ohio State's d-line is producing some great numbers, despite our belief that they are held often and called for it very rarely.
And, to get back on topic, I think that most of it is actually in our belief. We watch a game, see the holds against Ohio State that aren't called, and we think the refs suck. But we don't see that the exact same thing happens on the other side of the ball that isn't getting called. Officials will miss penalties. We complain when it hurts our team, but not when it helps our team.

For the record, I do agree with your last thought... fans react more to calls/non-calls that go against their team and remember those calls longer than those that go in favor of their team (perfect example, Cryami).

Oh come on LJB you know it was all The Buckeye's fault!
Just check the Iowa board and you'll see.
