"There's no doubt that the Canon-Mac game is huge. It means a lot," Sweat said. "We want to win but if we don't, we won't be hurting ourselves that much. (Thomas Jefferson) is a triple-A powerhouse. That's where we want to be. "Deciding which game is bigger is a tough call. You can look at it from several different angles but losing to TJ prohibits us from making the playoffs a little easier."

ANDREW SWEAT -- TRINITY LB


Andrew Sweat can offer a perspective well beyond his years -- and he can lay a booming hit on a ball carrier as well.

One of the most heavily recruited players in the state, Sweat is a senior linebacker at Trinity who has made a verbal commitment to Ohio State after considering scholarship offers from some of college football's heavy hitters.

Sweat's football merits are well documented, but some might not know much about the young man's existence when he takes off those pads.

He is ranked No. 7 in his class.

He is tremendously well spoken, each word exiting his mouth only after a careful thought.

And, he has his future mapped out as he's already decided -- if, of course, that NFL career does not pan out -- to go to law school and, afterward, take over his father's law firm.

"So many people are really great football players and play in college and that sort of thing," Sweat said. "But a lot of them lose sight of everything and where their future is going to take them. So many of them think they are going to play in the NFL and there just aren't that many spots, so that is why I look at things the way I do.

"My next step in life, after college football, probably isn't going to be the NFL and I realize that."

Hadn't watched Andrew's film in forever...the first thing you have to notice is his ability to play downhill. He always takes a perfect course to the ball and constantly attacks the ball. He also squares himself nicely for tackles and shows good speed in pursuit. Great instincts and a very good hitter. At times he tends to take the ball carrier in the chest a bit much but that can be easily corrected. We are really getting a good one.

Trinity goes two overtimes for win

"I think this game speaks volumes about us," said Sweat, who turned in another sensational defensive performance with 15 solo tackles and too many assisted tackles to count. "In a way, this was like a bonding game. We had to come together as a team to win this."

Penn State has built a well-deserved reputation for being known as "Linebacker U," but the Nittany Lions lost out on a chance to get a guy who could have fit well in that legacy. But what is Penn State's loss is Ohio State's gain, a school which in its own right has turned out a few decent linebackers.

Sweat personifies the Pennsylvania blue-collar perception but also blends it with excellent athletic ability. He is a linebacker prospect who looks the part and plays with a "seek and destroy" attitude, which should make fans in the horseshoe very happy. He will play consistently downhill and is big and physical enough to play through a blocker, but what helps land a prospect like Sweat among the nation's best is that he is more than just a battering ram.

The ESPNU High School All-American is also athletic and fluid enough to slip blocks and quickly change directions and chase down the ball. In a self examination of his own game, Sweat will tell you his strengths are his instincts and his pursuit of the football. Watching him play it is hard to argue, but many great players are hardly satisfied with their strengths and push to get better. Said Sweat: "I need to improve all areas to become the player I want to be."

I know this isn't the best place to start a dicussion like this, so I will tie this into Andrew as best I can.....(mainly since it was brought up in the article)

PSU is supposedly Linebacker U, but I am not sure how. Just going over the last 20 years, I would have to say Miami(9 LB's in the NFL currently) and tOSU(6) are far and away better when it comes to producing LB talent.

I would have to say Andrew made the better choice out of tOSU(6) and PSU(2)

Sweat's team wins 21-14 and is now 2-1 on the season

Andrew Sweat chipped in 80 yards rushing on five carries for Trinity, including a 66-yard TD run in the first quarter.

Yancich, Sweat pace Trinity's offense

Sweat, the Hillers' starting fullback, is coming off his best offensive game, which included a 66-yard touchdown run.

"It's important every game to execute the gameplan but I know I'll have different roles this week," Sweat said. "It comes down to executing."

In addition to two rushing touchdowns, Sweat leads Trinity with six receptions. He predicts and increased offensive role against the Colts.

Sweat had 17 tackles, 63 yards rushing and a 15-yard touchdown in a loss. Trinty is now 2-2 on the season.
