Hey all... for you folks who are moving over to DTV and getting a HD DVR, you may want to look into picking up an external drive for it. The internal drives are VERY small.

There's a lot of good info on the dtv web site that gives you specifics and "known to work" configurations.

I picked up an external drive case and a 1 TB (yes, that's right) eSATA drive. Put the pieces together, plugged it in and rebooted... and everything came up just fine on the first try. It was one of the "known to work configs" except the drive. I used the 1 TB version of another drive that was known to work... so I figured that there would be no problems.

That said, when you do this you'll loose access to the internal drive. So, if you've got something on there, you'll loose it when you have the external drive attached.

Good luck and I'm sure that you'll be quite happy with your choice. We've got the oval dish with 5 LNBs and have lost signal only once or twice over the last year or so. It's pretty amazing in that regard. Before the switch to the oval dish the signal could flake out on us from time to time... but no longer.

I couldn't hold out any longer. Called Directtv today and will be hooked up by Friday. I'm getting the HDTV DVR and 3 regular boxes for free. For 74.99 a month (for the first four months) I get all the premium channels for free and the NFL Sunday Ticket. What a deal!! After four months, I can downgrade to the basic package for 52.99 a month which includes the BigTen Network. I then called EMBARQ (my local phone service) and can get unlimited long distance and all the bells and whistles with 3.0 DSL speed internet(I know, not as fast as Road runner but plenty fast enough for me) for around 50.00 a month. If I'm doing the math correctly, I'm actually saving more money by doing this compared to staying with TWC.

Me too. With Comcast, BTN is only on 1 station, and there are hundreds of other channels showing all kinds of other [censored]. Why all those stations aren't "all BTN, all the time" [censored]es me off!

All Big Ten Network football games are available to Comcast to place on "overflow" channels. Comcast determines how to offer those games. Check your on-screen program guide or visit Big Ten Network throughout the season to get channel assignments for specific games. You may also call your local Comcast office.

Overflow games

Comcast will also provide BTN “overflow” channels. Fox/Big Ten Network will make all programming decisions and select the games that will be shown on the primary BTN channel and the overflows (in Pennsylvania, Penn State games that BTN has the rights to will be shown on the primary channel). Overflow channels will be found on 801, 802, 803 and 804, and will provide access to all BTN games.

uh oh. I'm guessing the basic non-digital version of Comcast only carries 1 BTN channel, and even though their website says Aug 30th at noon will be playing YSU @ OSU.....I think I'll be tuning in to Penn [censored] vs Coastal Carolina.
