I had previously posted that I was going to stick with Comcast because of the Video On Demand thing...
Then my wife,
who doesn't care about football at all, says that OnDemand is NBD because we can just record a bunch of children's stuff on the DVR to keep the munchkin happy. She just had me verify that the DVR wasn't smaller...
It turns out that the DirecTV HD-DVR (the same model Mili referenced) holds more than 3X the amount of programming of the best that is offered by Comcast. My wife then looked up JD-Power, and found that DirecTV is rated higher in customer satisfaction than Comcast...
So
my wife encouraged me to make the switch!! I just got off the phone with them. I did the 4-months for $70/month for the Premiere Package plus NFL Sunday Ticket. I can call in the 4th month to downgrade to Plus HD-DVR, I keep the same price but lose the premium channels after 4 months (who cares).
Long story short - The money I would have spent on Sports Bars I just spent instead on the DirecTV HD-DVR at
my wife's insistence. I get to see my Buckeyes on my own 50" plasma!
Have I mentioned lately that I love that woman?
BTW:
AFTER the price increase from Comcast High-Speed Internet, I'll be paying $7 a month more TOTAL for utilities. Even before the new DirecTV HD channels come on line, I'll be getting more of the channels I want PLUS the Buckeyes for $7 a month. The four months of premium channels (which includes FSN Ohio which carries the Jim Tressel Show which I can't get
at all on Comcast) plus NFL Sunday Ticket plus the new HD channels when they become available plus the money I'll be saving by not going to a sports bar made this a slam dunk.
I realize it may not work out this way for everybody, and those who are getting less than they got last year have my sympathy. But I am one very happy man right now.
The only down side is that they couldn't schedule installation for earlier than the 4th of September. I may have to go to a Sports Bar for one game. whatever
