We got a nice plug from - Buckeye Commentary | An Ohio State Sports Blog, so I thought I'd extend the same to them.

So its probably a little early to ask this but does anyone know if I'd get the big ten network up in minneapolis?? I'm thinking I do, but does anyone think it comes with the gameday package??

It was my impression that Big Ten Network is its own network - not affiliated with ESPN. And that Gameday is part of ESPN. So I don't think the two are affiliated.

It seems to be about whether your cable provider wants to pick it up. Call those guys up and see if they're cool. Or, like so many people have already stated, get one of those dish network deals - direcTV or something. The people posting on here with those deals seem confident that they're going to get their Big Ten Network.

According to the faq's on the network website, it's a done deal with DirecTV and it will be on their Total Choice (basic) package.

If you live in Big 10 country, I couldn't see your local cable company not picking it up...they would be shooting themselves in the foot if they don't imo.

So I have Direct TV... you guys sayin I'll probably have it then? because I can't miss a game!! I mean their's such a small season as it is with football I gata get as much as I can! Thanks for the help guys.. Go bucks! oh and how many here believe we'll beat YSU worse than Penn State did last year? If I remember right Penn State didn't really kill them

While I agree that it'd be stupid to not pick up the Big Ten Network, I would be very surprised if my cable provider (Time Warner) picks it up. I just seem to get the vibe that they are very reluctant to make their customers happy. Of course, their customers are dolts like me who are too lazy and unmotivated to do anything about it. So I'll probably be sitting here whining about it come football season.

It always comes off as the cable companies fault, but sometimes it's not. the B10 Network is asking for $1.10 per subscriber. Compare that to the $.70 the NFL Network got, and you have a channel that will show the "Big 2" in football only when they play crappy teams charging $.40 more than the NFL Network that has a much better product.

Seems to me that the cable companies are being unnecessarily inflexible.
So, we as consumers have one obvious option.
Get DirecTV - which is generally cheaper than cable, plus you will have the Big10 network.
It does seem that DTV can swallow that $1.10 whole with little problem.
If $1.10 is such a big deal for the cable providers then offer the channel at a modest premium via a per subscriber sale agreement. Would $2.00 per month be too much? Would a $1.50 per month be reasonable?

You're right. Well, maybe not about the specific numbers. I haven't checked into specifics, so I don't know. Let's assume for now that you're right about those, also. But it's all a business decision for the cable providers. Is it worth it for them to carry the Big Ten Network? I'm sure that if they thought the answer was "yes," they'd pick the network up. If they think the answer is "no," then they won't.

All I know is that the local bars better have the Big Ten Network, because I'm pretty confident that I won't have it.

If you have directv, you will be fine because they don't have bandwidth problems, like cable. If you have a cable company(that has the BTN)and you live in Ohio, you will be OK. The problem could arise if you have a cable company(that has the BTN)and you live outside of Ohio. Let's say you live in Michigan and are a buckeye fan. The BTN will offer a split feed of the game, when they televise more than one game at a time. The local Michigan cable company would take the Michigan feed and have the option of picking up OSU on another channel, if they wanted to. Some cable companies wouldn't want to do this because the demand would be small.

I guess I'm a doubter because DirecTV hasn't stated anything regarding a desire to televise multiple BTN games at the same time. I hope they will, but I'll believe it when they tell me so (which is already giving them the benefit of the doubt since I really should wait until I SEE it...)
