just a general comment of mine from what i personally saw at the open practice. i really was impressed with storm klein. in fact so much that he was the second in the non returning significant returner (i wont use the word starter since many of the guys played substantial amounts but have not started, see guys like hines etc who are relatively proven commodities). only behind carter [when you see body control and hands like that its hard not to drool]. storm has gone untalked about really and while his impact as a frosh likely will be relegated to special teams and mop up lb duty i couldnt helped but be suprised by quickness, natural play with his hands and just an overall feeling that no doubt was a great pick up.

Klein ready to contribute for Buckeyes

COLUMBUS -- In one breath, Storm Klein speaks as if everything about playing football for Ohio State has become second nature.

In the next breath, however, the sense of excitement still is there.

Come Saturday when No. 6 Ohio State starts the season at Ohio Stadium against Navy, Klein fully expects it to be an experience like no other he has been a part of.

"I've walked down before and that was a cool experience," Klein said. "But it's going to be a whole different ballgame, running out with 105,000 people out here."

The freshman and former Licking Valley All-Ohioan likely will see action of some sort against Navy.

In coach Jim Tressel's weekly press conference Tuesday, he said Klein will "probably play" Saturday against Navy.

Other media outlets have reported the freshman likely won't be redshirted and should see time on special teams and at linebacker for the Buckeyes.

He has been to almost every OSU home game since his sophomore season at Valley, but this undoubtedly will be different.

His father, Jason Klein, has been overwhelmed with emotion just thinking of what Saturday will bring.

"It will add a whole different dimension to it," Jason Klein said. "I grew up loving Ohio State, but it's different now. This adds a whole different dimension.

"This has been one of the most exciting things in my life. It's been a roller coaster."

COLUMBUS -- Storm Klein was fine with taking a few moments to snap some pictures and clown around during Ohio State's media day at Ohio Stadium in August.


Those moments have been few and far between since Klein arrived in the winter, however.

The former Licking Valley standout has made a name for himself heading into his freshman season, which begins Saturday against Navy.

Klein also talked to The Advocate about the rigors of training camp, being on campus and if he expects to contribute immediately for the No. 6 Buckeyes.


?The Advocate: You've always been known as a hard worker, but college football is an entirely different animal. What kind of eye-opener was spring practice and the preseason camp?


?Storm Klein: You never know the freedoms you have until you're in a camp like this. It's all football and it's a tremendous difference from high school. You don't realize how much harder you can work until you get a place like this.

COLUMBUS - Questions about whether Storm Klein would be redshirted at Ohio State were answered immediately Saturday.

When the Buckeyes took the field to return the opening kickoff, the Licking Valley graduate was one of the 11. Klein was a part of the wedge for Lamaar Thomas and a decoy when Brandon Saine carried the opening kickoff to the Navy 49-yard line off a reverse handoff from Thomas.

"It was a cool thing when I figured out that we were going out there," Klein said. "It all happened so fast. We went through it so many times that it was nice to finally hit someone else instead of your teammate."

Klein participated on two more kickoff returns Saturday during Ohio State's 31-27 season-opening victory against the Midshipmen. He was on the field for Navy's next-to-last kickoff until Ohio State called timeout to substitute its hands unit in anticipation of a potential onside kick. Klein also played on a situational punt team for the Buckeyes.

The 6-foot-3, 225-pound Klein, who is not listed in the two-deep at linebacker, did not see any time defensively, but he said he expects his practice repetitions to increase in the coming weeks. The coaching staff spent extra time during the week preparing the veteran linebackers for Navy's complicated triple-option offense.

How ever Klein finds the field, he will not complain. He always was standing on the sideline and never far from the action Saturday.

Storm is good buddies with one of the kids I lift with and I got to meet him the other night. I must say, his neck is already getting to look like JL's did. It's wider than my shoulders. He looked a legit 6'4 with some pipes on him.
Also, saw Sam Longo and Big Marcus Hall today. Marcus is one BIIIIIIGGG dude. Funny how lost the freshmen looked finding their way around campus. Pretty cool to see them out and about like the rest of us. I saw Boom walking around campus today too. God I love fall.
