With Troy Smith down to his last two games before he leaves for the draft, which quarterback in the wings is going to get the call? Todd Boeckman, 6'5'' and 235 pounds, has played more than any of the QB's who are waiting for the call. With two of the other three quarterbacks that will be at The Ohio State University next year being freshman this year, the only realistic competition comes from the 6'1'' 210 Pounds current Sophomore, Ben Kacsandi. Is there really a competition? Is Boeckman our next starter? Can he get it done? Out of his first two years he has accumulated seven completions on ten passes for 86 yards and a 119 QB rating. But, nothing can be properly gauged because the games from this season were already finished against Cincinnati, Indiana, and Northwestern and Zwick had also played in the Cincinnati and Northwestern games before Boeckman got his chance.

Are you a columnist? Kacsandi is a walkon.

Rob Schoenhoft has appeared in 2 games this season and completed his one attempted pass for 5 yards, though I assume he will be ahead of Kacsandi even without that nominal PT, as will Henton.

assuming it'll be Boeckman but hoping we get Troy Smith, Jr (Henton) into the fray so we can keep this high powered offense rolling

I haven't seen enough out of any of these guys to give an educated answer on this subject. Any name given would be purely out of preconceived ideas and opinions. I made that mistake with Zwick/Smith and would rather not repeat the second guessing and choosing of sides. I'll wait to see what happens on the field and let the staff (who sees these kids everyday in practice) go with who they think is best for the job.

I would have to think Boeckman has the "inside track", so I'll vote for him. However, I have never seem Henton play so I really have no idea how he might perform.
Actually the only vote that counts is Jim Tressel's, and I doubt that he will cast his vote before until next August. |

Ralph Jones
see troy is going to grow a beard and let his hair grow long and change his name, then come back for a few more years as Ralph Jones |

I'm closing this thread until after The Game.
We've got enough to talk about this week. Let's only think about the 2006 team this week - they deserve our full attention. |

QB situation ?!?!?
I know it's really early for this, but i'm just kind of curious on our QB situation for next year. We really have nobody to come in with experience at all. We look pretty good at most positions for next year, but not at QB for at least right now. Someone could pop up and suprise us, but who is the likely Troy replacement for next year? Who is most likely going to win the job for next season? We might be more a running team next year, but well maybe not. No matter who the QB is it's going to be great to have an amazing WR core still. Gonzo, Robo, Hartline back for sure, and Ginn probably a 50/50 we should be really good next year also. Still whats everyones opinion on the QB situation.

I think Troy should start.

Boeckman will get first shot, but if he can't hit the broadside of a barn, then we could see Schoenhoft or Henton get a shot.

Yeah, I have a feeling Troy will start the Bowl game.
OK, smartass, how about "next season"? Obviously Boeckman is the frontrunner right now. A first-class running game and fantastic receiving corps should help him in his first year as starter. I don't think he will "take any of us by surprise" if he plays well. He's very accurate and pretty fearless, and moves around in the pocket pretty well. Boone, Rehring, Cordle, Person/Smith, Barton, Nicol........still a very good crew up front. The thing that Coach T does during these long bowl game preparation times is to let the young guys play a lot and play hard (full game speed) to develop them and see who steps up and stands out for next year. Both Boeckman and Schoenhoft will get plenty of snaps in game-simulation situations the next 7 weeks. |
