Looking at the depth chart, I don't see young Mr. Goebel redshirting.

I think Goebel is definetly yours now.

ND just received a verbal committment from Omar Hunter of Georgia, and Michigan got a verbal from in-stater Mike Martin the same day Hunter pledged to ND.

UM is pretty solid at DT with a slew of players who really have yet to even really play. Jim McKinney (who had injuries and illness slow him), Marques Slocum (who finally was admitted into school and will begin this fall as a freshman), Adam Patterson (Soph), Jason Kates (RS Frosh), John Ferrara (RS Frosh), and Renaldo Sagesse (true frosh) who will probably redshirt. Not to mention projected JR starters Terrance Taylor and Will Johnson, who will be seniors and locks as starters in 2008. McKinney, Slocum, and Patterson all have big-time talent and were very highly thought of by the services. Kates has alot of potential but there are alot of concerns about his work-ethic and committment to keeping his weight down. Ferrara will probably never be anything other than quality depth. Sagesse is very raw, but very athletic. I've heard very good things about him and his potential. Mike Martin is pretty much a Terrance Taylor clone, they are eerily similar in size (both 6'1, 300ish), hs athletics background (both heavyweight wrestling champs, shot-put champs, and heavy-weight power-lifters) ability, and playing style.

Goebel commits to OSU, and very soon IMO. Probably within 2-3 months tops IMO.

The more I've seen and read, the more I think the field is starting to pull out of the race for Goebel - leaving just the Buckeyes. The Mike Martin verbal to Michigan doesn't make Goebel a "must get" for them any longer. And if memory serves, they didn't have as dire a need there as OSU to begin with.

I'm pretty sure an Irish breakdown may bore some of you, but I don't want this to sound like I'm simply pulling half brained opinions out of my a**.

The Irish are in a position that, if they don't feel the caliber of a DL recruit is "instant impact", they could probably try to devote that scholarship elsewhere, and take aim at a 4th and 5th LB (perhaps Etienne Sabino and Steve Filer, but thats getting off topic). They've locked up some talented guys, and can afford to be a little more choosy than when we only had two commits at DL, and offered Goebel.

With plenty of tape on Kapron Lewis-Moore playing the DE in a 3-4 alignment, and Ethan Johnson being offered months earlier than Goebel, I have to believe those are the two the Irish will make a priority of, with a very small chance they start recruiting Marcus Forston as a DE.

To sum it up, I'm starting to see Goebel as the odd man out. Not a knock against the guy - he's a very good prospect who's wrestling background shows with regularity. He has good football IQ, and I could easily see him having success wherever he lands. Whoever gets him will be pleased with the player they see lining up on Saturdays.

Anyone else notice that some of the "visiting" fan bases to BP... will pretend to be interested in discussing a specific recruit (ie. Goebel), but really just want to talk about their own team's depth chart and recruits (Michigan..check above)...

I like how the post starts with a general comment.. then goes off on a long paragraph about Michigan's depth chart at DT and their recruiting targets... then he makes sure to finish off with another general Goebel comment just to make it seems like that is the topic of his post..

And just to relate this back to Goebel.. he was coming to OSU regardless of Hunter and whoever Michigan just landed

If you people dont think that the depth chart and/or current positional recruiting of our two main competetors for a recruit aren't important than I suggest you re-think that.

Now if you honestly think that they are doing it just as a cheap plug for their team, fine, but it doesn't seem that way to me.

As far as Goebel......I think the visit this weekend with his mother is HUGE. I know he likes the Bucks, but as I'm sure JT knows, you gotta sell the parents too.

It looks to me like a "perfect match"....the Buckeyes wanted Goebel all along & vice versa. A few years from now when reflecting on the 2008 recruiting class I am quite sure the Buckeyes & Goebel will all be "happy campers" settling for NOTHING LESS THAN a National Championship (or two!!)

This makes me so happy.

They can have their guys, we got ours. I guess everyone is happy.

He is Tressel's number one DT and that is good enough for me.

Goebel is a stud, congrats. He's all yours.

Like OSUBuckeye4Life said, depth always plays a role, unless of course you are USC/Pete Carroll. That "your my #1 guy" load of BS seems to work on 16-18 year old kids like money does with strippers.

Anyways, this might be a bit off topic, but where the heck are the DT's from Ohio the past few classes? Is it just me, or has the state of Ohio been producing lots of athletic DE's yet virtually no DT's lately. You guys look pretty stacked on the depth chart at DE, but at DT you look pretty thin.

UM/ND look to be set at DT, and to top it off Goebel doesn't look like the typical NT to me in ND's 3-4 system, he'd be more of a DE in that system, and the DE they want most is Ethan Johnson, and his top 2 are 'SC/ND with ND being the rumored leader.

I've seen many posts that had less to offer the reader.
