After Spitler takes over for a year Sabino will be the man in the middle...
|
Spitler strikes me as a "blue collar" LB who works hard, knows his assignments and could play pretty much anywhere in the Big Ten. The starting lineups for OSU have been filled with kids like Spitler playing alonside the Katz and Spiels of the world.
But this depth chart doesn't leave a lot of room for "blue collar" kids.

Guys like J. Leman and Tim McGarigle were blue collar guys but they didn't have the athleticism of Spitler. Think you're selling him a little short.

Have we seen enough of Spitler to make that determination?
Sabino was impressive during the Spring Game but lets remember the vanilla gameplan. I'm fairly confident he has a bit of a ways to go to handle the full scheme and playbook. Next year I think his overall athleticism and talent will push Spitler but doubtful he passes him IMO.

I don't think Spitler has seen enough time (being behind JL) to really pass judgment on him yet. I do know that Coach T speaks highly of him, and that is good enough for me. One thing that he brings to the table next year that will be missing, is senior leadership. He's a guy that has been in the system, and imo, could be a good field general next year.
It's just great to know that we have such a high caliber group of LB's ready to step up after JL, Terry and Feeman graduate:
Spitler
Rolle
Homan
Hines
Moeller
Sabino
Sweat
Klein
Whiting
Bell?
Am I forgetting anyone since Gibson and Johnson have moved to DE?

Yup we are loaded at LB...
I just really like Spitler's game...Sabino is going to be a stud no doubt, but Spitler has waited his turn behind the best LB in the country and I think he will be ready to step in for a year...he could play on the outside as some have mentioned, but I think Sabino could as well...

To see his athleticism? Absolutely. He has the same tools Laurinaitis has.

Rather generic IMO. Most of the LB'ers brought into Ohio State have a "tool" set that should be rather similar if broken down into broad catergories (speed, strength, athleticism, etc).
How you can put Spitler and JL in the same sentence though is a bit much for me given the little amount of real data we have on him.
I very much hope you turn out to be right though.
