Ross Homan, Ohio State linebacker

Ohio State University's Ross Homan intercepts a pass intended for USC's Anthony McCoy.

His 15-tackle effort against Wisconsin last week probably was the best game of his career, save for his 15-yard penalty for unnecessary roughness while making a block on Jermale Hines' interception return for a touchdown. Except it wasn't really Homan who committed that foul.

"When they called 51, I looked back and said: 'I didn't touch anyone. How is this possible?' " Homan said. "When I got off the field, everyone was like, 'Ross what did you do, what did you do?' and I was like, 'What are you talking about?' "

It was actually defensive end Nathan Williams, No. 43, who took his block a step too far, and knowing Williams' reputation for going hard through the whistle, that's not a surprise. Not that Williams was ready to cover for Homan.

"Nate was probably hiding on the bench," Homan said with a smile.

The game as a whole showed Homan's ability to cover, blitz or tackle in the run game. As the Badgers put together 89 plays of offense, he rarely, if ever, came off the field.

"I slept in the cold tub after the game," Homan said. "But that comes with playing 100 plays."

Once again for the Ohio State defense, the assignment changes a bit this week, with the Boilermakers spread out more often than the Badgers, though their offense isn't one-dimensional. Neither is Homan.

Another great game yesterday by Homan!! I think this is the 4th or 5th game Homan has lead the team in tackles add the INT, should be D player of the game this week again. The kid is a great leader for this team.

After my weekly review of the game... one of my favorite moments was when Ross was on the bench after the interception. Coach Fickell came up and smacked him in the face.... it was hilarious.

Ross has been playing lights out lately.

Homan is the most consistent performer on the defense. No doubt fans were wowed by the one-man wrecking machine named Cam Heyward last weekend at Penn State, and obviously Thad Gibson and Kurt Coleman have had their moments this season, along with Brian Rolle. But the one guy who seems to show up week-in and week-out and make big plays is Ross Homan. The junior out of Coldwater finished with a team-high eight tackles Saturday, which vaults him ahead of Rolle for the team lead with 84 tackles this season. He also had a key interception in the fourth quarter that set up the long Saine touchdown run, and simply seems to be developing that James Laurinaitis knack for being around the football.

Best hit: Junior outside linebacker Ross Homan, entering the game as Ohio State's second-leading tackler, flattened Iowa fullback Brett Morse on a short third-down dump pass over the middle, timing the strike perfectly to force a punt late in the second quarter. The Buckeyes scored the game's first touchdown on the next series to break a sluggish 3-3 tie.

Homan provided another wake-up call in the fourth quarter, stopping an Iowa drive with a third-down interception to set up Saine's long dash.

Ross Homan played like a Butkus award nominee....I dunno if he is gonna be one, but I sure think he is playing at that calibre. Easily the best of our LBs this season.

oh contraire, Nobody is the best LB this season. Homan, Rolle, and Spit have been studs all season. To try to put one above the rest really goes against the creed of this defense.

Sorry but Homan is the best LB we have and it's not close. In fact he has played as well if not better than ant one on the D week in and week out. I would think he will be all big 10 this year, and have a leg up to be an AA next year!!!

Not even close? Really? Ross has been great, for sure, but it seems like all the LBs have been making plays when given the chance. I'm going to have to agree with Buckfan09 on this one.
