Biography:
Anderson Russell rushed for 573 yards and 11 touchdowns on only 100 attempts in an option offense. He also competes on the diamond as a prep baseball player.

Coach's Comments: "Anderson is a punishing running back," said Head Coach Alan Chadwick. "He's big and strong with good potential. Anderson combines good quickness with good speed."

Scouting Report: Anderson Russell runs with good power and determination. He is an unselfish player who puts the needs of the team first. Russell could get a look at safety but will most likely project as a running back
Quote:

ANDERSON RUSSELL

School, class: Marist, senior

Position: Tailback

Vital statistics: 6-0, 197

Just the facts: Carried 100 times for 573 yards last year and scored 15 touchdowns. Clocked at 4.41 in the 40-yard dash. Benches 300 pounds and cleans 309. Has 34-inch vertical.

Colleges: Offer from Duke; has attracted the attention of Georgia, Florida, Clemson, Tennessee, North Carolina and Ohio State.

Scholastics: 3.0, 1130 SAT

If I weren't an athlete, I'd probably be: "A better student, with a 4.0 GPA. Without playing sports, I would have a lot more time to study."

Three things I can't live without: "Football, my family and God."
Favorite NFL team, NFL player: Dolphins, Michael Vick

Quote:
Several coaches I spoke to on the day had the same reaction I did when I saw Anderson Russell of Marist, "I didn't know he was that big!". Russell checked in at 6-0 and 200 pounds, and he looked solid in drills all day. He caught the ball well out of the backfield. With three seniors vacating the State Champion's backfield, Russell is going to have a chance to get a lot of carries this year.

Quote:
• Marist tailback Anderson Russell entered preseason practice with only one offer (Duke), but could end up with more than any other player in the area by season's end. College scouts are waiting to see Russell's production and durability over the course of a season as Marist's No. 1 offensive option.

Marist is a pretty strong program in football and basketball for a relatively small private school.

Rivals Premium

Russell's team is off to a 4-1 start. Ohio State is one of the schools Anderson has been in contact with this month. Georgia Tech, Duke and the Buckeyes are his favorites. He has been talking with Dick Tressel and Mel Tucker and they have talked to him about possibly playing both ways.

Duke Insiders Premium

His final two are Duke and tOSU. tOSU has now offered (two weeks ago). They want him as a safety. Note: This happened about the same time they pulled the ship from AMW. He is open to the shift from RB to Safety. Sounds like this is close to happening. Coach Tucker is recruiting.

OSU Rob could go either way
This could be a case where the kid would rather walk into major playing time as a freshman than "pay his dues" at OSU where he has to compete with 5 other h.s. all americans, a la Izzy Bauta last year.
