I'm not pessimistic. I see a better offense than the last two years.

maybe the coaching change will actually help? i have a world of respect for what what tim spencer did but maybe a different coach will have better results with lydell just from using a different approach?

I would use the term "attack" loosely. The only thing that Hall/Ross have attacked with any great regularity is the backsides of their own offensive linemen.

Agree with Tibor.....
Did anyone find it interesting that Ross was talking about envisioning himself as the, "best back or top 5 back" in the country?
I know that one has to believe in themself and think positively but he needs to come back down to earth...IF I were Lydell I would rate my goals as this:
1) Win and keep the starting job at tailback at OSU.Be a Top 2 back at OSU and not a 3rd, 4th or 5th.....it could happen by the middle of the season!
2) Hit the hole each play quicker, lower and at full speed.
3) Expect to brake tackles and get away from defenders.
4) Take any blow that comes to him( easy gutter minds) and be able to deliver a blow back or get up after he is tackled.
5) Have tremendous pride in his ability to run, be a senior leader, and brake tackles.
6) Shoot for 100 yards each game.
7) Worry about injuries when the season is injured....if he doesn' t this could be his last year of football...period!

I agree Tibor. However, with an accurate passing game the defenses will quit stacking the defense to stop the running game. Also, Ross will have Joe and the other backs pushing him to perform at a higher level.
IMO, Last year the defenses didn't respect the Bucks passing game. Krenzel was a good QB when it came to reducing mistakes but he couldn't hit the broad side of a barn on many plays when the receivers were wide open.

If Ross said he's a top five back, then they need to send him for drug testing.
That being said, anyone who watched OSU play throughout last season knows that the RBs were dinged up most of the time and that the OL was highly inconsistent. One play they'd blow the DL off the line, and the next half the defense was in our backfield. Ross is a good back when he's healthy. He averaged over 4 ypc in the Fiesta Bowl against an excellent KSU defense which had given up only 4 TDs in their last 6 games, because he was over his turf toe and the OL performed quite well for the most part. If our OL simply performs well on a consistent basis and the RBs we have stay healthy, our running attack will be at least adequate.

I have to believe that Ross and Hall will have a better season. They were both banged up last year, Ross with at least a bad shoulder and Hall with two bad knees, there was no fullback, and the line was up and down. Will he have an Eddie George-like senior year? Probably not, but I do feel he will be better. The majority of the line and the QB will be green, but I think their is more talent there than years past.

I am an eternal optimist, so I see Ross having a great year. Tressel will get him ready as far as being motivated. Ross does have size and power; he just needs to run with an attitude. The new Tressel will get him there. Our offense will be fun to watch this year as Zwick will connect with many different receivers including Holmes, Izze, Hamby, Childress, Ross, Hall, etc...I can't wait. The defense will be the defense, and I will be surprise if we don't finish atleast 10-1 and go to the Rose Bowl.

I think the OL this yeaer is going to surprise alot of people. I think we have two legitimate All Big Ten players in Mangold and Sims. I also see Datish as really bringing it to the table and having a breakout year.
I'll expand little on Mili's point about Ross going for drug testing if he thinks he's a top-5 back nationally. Don't be a bit surprised if Ross is in NYC next December as a candidate for the Heisman. I'm serious about this. Or do I need to go to drug testing with Lydell?????
