The awkward movement/voting in the coaches poll is a curious thing to watch.....Minnesota destroyed a solid toledo team 63-21 and drops from 23 to 24? Now how does that happen?

If the Buckeyes won the the way LSU did we would drop 3 to 4 spots, and Saban should have his priviledge revoked for voting that way.

I wish I agreed with you DiHard, but this year more than ever there will be partisan voting. With the change in the BCS, Coaches and Media can affect the outcome more than ever ... and they probably will. The frickin morons who run the BCS didn't see this crap coming? Unbelievable.

oh come on folks....its labor day....

way to early to get all up in arms...the coaches and sportswriters havent even begun to get an idea about teams outside of their region...

I've thought about this long before this weekend Di. The BCS has put the power back into the hands of the coaches and media. They will use it. Not only do positions in each poll count, but percentage of points. Meaning that the total number of points your team received in each poll is more important that their position in the poll. If two teams (ranked 1 and 2) are within a few points of each other in total votes, then there is almost NO difference in their ranking. There is more chance now than ever of coaches and media FUBARing this season's ranking simply because of biases. If you look back at last season (actually several seasons) the media for sure (and coaches to some degree) has been looking for a way to split the championship and make a change to the BCS formula. Now they've got it. And now with the coaches vote being such a high percentage of the total BCS score, they have more incentive to vote with bias.

Bucks are in the top 10.

LSU plays Georgia
Miami plays FSU
Oklahoma plays Texas

we move up three spots just because of that ....
we play scUM ...
there is another spot ....

we will be in the top five unless we lose.
and that doesn't count anyone else losing .....

as always ... without a loss we control our own fate.

I'm with Dihard on this one.

This stuff does work out in the end. I don't agree with Minnesota being moved down. I don't think LSU is a top 5 team. I don't think Michigan is better than OSU. But.. this is the 2nd full week of the season. Relax. If OSU wins all their games, they'll be right in the thick of it come BCS Selection time.

The polls are meaningless right now. There is a ton of football to be played. Look back in the history of the game and see how often it is that there are more than 2 "major" teams with no losses. It doesn't happen. If it does happen, we move a step closer to a playoff. I hope OSU doesn't get shafted in such a scenario.. But, if they do, it won't be the first time a worthy team got screwed.

Wait a second --- but depending on the human polls is more accurate than computer results. With all the press after this years BCS, you would think that was the first split championship.

I completely agree and have always found it funny that teams and leagues with financials and prestige at stake have an influence on which teams are invited to the BCS.

Come to think of it, maybe the Big Ten should expand. It will increase our voting power!

I am not complaining about this particular poll, just the principle.

i trust you...i havent examined the new scheme at all yet....but...when has anything ever been slanted the big ten's way?? a team from the big ten has to be undefeated to play for the title....while a florida school can lose once...its the same as always...

i just think its more of the same.....

My problem with the new BCS is that the reason for the BCS in the first place was to take it out of voters hands, and now it's right back in their hands... why? Cause the system didn't agree with the voters #1 pick last year. Well, look, if SOS is a factor (as it was last year) then USC had better nut up and play a better schedule if they want to get to the big game. I'm not saying USC intentionally scheduled cupcakes, but LSU's 12 -1 and even OU's 12 - 1 looked a [censored]load better than USC's 11 - 1 or whatever it was.. why? Cause OU and LSU beat better teams.

The BCS commissioner, Mr. Big Least Pres, should have had the stones to say, "Hey, look... USC got screwed? How so? This is the system we have, and it worked the way it was supposed to. We have 3 teams that can all stake a legit claim to the big game, and the system has picked two - LSU and OU. It worked perfectly, and we're not changing it to conform to the pollsters. I'll have you all remember, the old Poll system's inadequecies are the entire reason we have this BCS anyway. Deal with it. Do I feel sorry for USC? No. Do they have a legitimate gripe? Not really. The teams they beat weren't as tough as the teams OU and LSU beat. End of discussion."

THat wouldn't have made USC fans happy, nor would it have made me happy if it was OSU getting left out. But, the system worked. (I will say, if they have SOS they need to have MOV - if you're supposed to crush East Upper Nobody State and you do crush them, you shouldn't be penalized by having played them in the first place)

The ONLY problem with the system was that it did not agree with the almighty we cannot ever be wrong media. And, since the media is never wrong, they will tell us (the masses) time and time again how wrong the system was, until they get enough people to believe them. Then all the power will be put back in the hands of media, who is never wrong. Case in point of how the media is never wrong:

Miami was the best team 2002.
Oklahoma was the best all time team in 2003.

See, how can you argue with that logic? Clearly, any sane person can see that we are much better off now without SOS and quality wins being factored in
