This is WAY premature to speculate but I'm going to anyway.
Can anyone else see Krenzel in the making as the next head football coach at Ohio State?

The next HC? That would be an awfully huge leap. Would he make a great OC or position coach down the road? Absolutely. Between med school, playing at the next level(keep your comments to yourself ) and coaching he has a number of options. Good for him!

Interesting but doubtful. If he makes it (and sticks) in the NFL for a while it's possible. But I see him working in the Private Sector as a doctor and researcher making big money (after a limited NFL career). I think that will be his career path. That doesn't lend itself to becoming an assistant coach, then head coach at a smaller school as preparation for the head job at OSU. But who knows? Maybe Craig sticks close to football.

This begs the question of how long do we expect Tress to coach at OSU? Since he has won an NC and will more than likely win another, he should get to pick his own length of time. I'm going to guess he is here another 15 years.

So many questions. How much will the game and the players change in that time span? Is there another coach in the OSU family? Will Spielman be willing to take the time to work his way through the ranks?

I think Craig definitely has the mind/knowledge side of the fence down. He sounds like he has the ability to teach based on Zwicks comments regarding film study with Craig. Being a head coach takes a lot of dedication to be good. Craig has to be an awfully dedicated person to excel both at football and Molecular Genetics.

I am beginning to convince myself that Craig has many of the tools to be a good head coach someday.

I could easily seeing him being a coach. He is obviously an intelligent guy whose most valuable asset on the field is his brain. He understands the game and played under a great coach. He also seems to have a very strong relationship with teammates, is very mature for his age, speaks well, and is a great ambassador of the university.

Not knowing CK whatsoever personally, he strikes me as a person who would make his future career decision not solely based on the options available, but where he could also have the greatest impact. Would helping to shape dozens of young males every year be more beneficial that whatever his other options are (doctor, researcher, NFL player)? That is only a question he can answer.

As far as timing, it might be right. I still see Tressel staying for another 15-20 years, unless his interview with the Bills went well yesterday (Just kidding). That certainly is time for CK to pay his dues and work his way up through the coaching ranks. The pay for being a doctor is good, but how many doctors make $1.5 - $2.5 million a year? Probably the same number as football coaches who make that kind of money.

Anyways, I could see him doing it. Whether he has ever considered it is something I do not know.

I have no data to back this up, but I'm guessing there are A LOT more doctors making 1, 2, 3 million per year than there are football coaches making that money.

I'm sure you are correct that there are more doctors that have million dollar incomes than football coaches with the equivalent. If you consider all coaches at professional and collegiate levels, the numbers get closer, but doctors probably still win.

Now, if someone can explain to me how many professions are out there, excluding sports, where you can fail at your job, get fired and then get hired by someone else at a higher salary, I am all ears!

Speaking of Jim Tressel do you think he has the chance to become the next Joe Paterno or Bobby Bowden of College Football at Ohio State?

Thats a good possibility if he can constantly be sucessfull against Michigan and we are in the running for another run at a National Championship season. And you have to remember that JoePa was doing all this way back in the 70's. And when I say "sucessfull in beating Michigan", I mean at thier place as well and being undefeated in our schedules in the future. Look at how many seasons we had a chance to go undefeated in the 90's only to have SCum ruin our dreams. Get over that big obstacle and Tressel is in big time to becoming the next JoePa or Bowden.

Correct me if I'm wrong but didnt those two start their D-1a careers pretty young? While JT has had tremedous success in coaching, I dont think the big time success will last enough generations.
I could be wrong and probably am.
