Tressel's Call in Show: Thursday 7-8, 1460 What'll it be like?
I only caught the 2nd half of it last week because I forgot that it was on and I was staying late at the office- But I remember Tressel getting a little snippy with some callers saying something to the effect: "We don't even need to really hold practice or do film study, we should just run our team through a call-in show so we can figure out who plays quarterback and who plays running back."

His humor is funny to me, and this week's callers should really be giving him all sorts of hell about the offense as usual and a little about the D of course. Ever since the loss I've imagined myself asking all sorts of questions about stuff like, "why can't our great recruiting translate into the same kinds of successes USC has had on offense?"

I'd actually never call a call-in show but I'm just throwing a thread out to discuss the likely questions, answers, likely hilarity and possibly inform those who don't listen. I love it, being in Florida, the internet is awesome. I wish it was this good when I missed the 98 season because I was working/taking class/having entirely too much fun in Switzerland.

It should be fun to listen to.

Trust me, it is frustrating on the lower levels to hear the damn bleacher creatures call in their suggestions from the stands...I can only imagine JT's frustration as he spends countless hours dissecting film and observing actual practice when he has to hear the same bull[censored]

I think I have a pretty dry sense of humor myself, but there are times when I can't tell if JT is kidding or not - he really tickles me.

That said, if the calls are getting to him at all right now he has the wrong job. There has never been a coach at OSU who coached more than a couple of seasons that didn't lose at least four in a season now and again. You lose four in today's age of call-in shows and message boards and you are going to get crucified. Can you imagine what it will be like next week if we do lose to Wisky?

It's hilarious listening to the call in show every week.

I was listening to the Lou Holtz call-in on my way home from practice tonight...guy did the exact same complimenting of Holtz then said, "Coach, I'm sure you guys have picked up that Pinkens(sp?) is bird-dogging the QB draw by leaning forward before the snap. Just thought you'd want to know in case you hadn't noticed."

Holtz: "Well thanks bud, but we haven't run a QB with Pinkens yet this year but thanks for watching."

I laughed like hell...

It's almost... No... It is degrading for the coaches to be subjected to the abuse, although it's completely unintended to be ABUSE.

It's almost uncanny how at the end of the show Tressel gets on a real good tangent as a result of a not so bad question about something technical that he seems to enjoy talking about and then the 1460.com website just clips him right off.

I guess that's why I've been listening this season. Because at the end of the last show Tressel starts going off on what he was thinking on the 3rd down that blew up right before we were about to score and Ross fumbled or something. I'd rather they just let him talk for a while or something. Usually, BS, stupid question, response. Commercials. And 1460 cuts him off every single time on the website.

I'd like to hear Granny Holtz's show. That's gotta be hilarious. I can't believe dude said, "bird-doggen".

The live show is run from 12:00 - 1:00 EST on Thursday afternoon. I thought this was a stroke of genius. Most people are at work, so he probably won't have the volume of calls that he would, say, at 7:00 pm (that's the re-run of the show). Hell, they don't take the first call until a 1/2 hour in. Must drive him insane to talk to some of those people.

Cooper had his show live at 6:00 or 7:00 in the evening, and it was brutal sometimes.

I remember Michigan week one year. A caller called in and said the following:

Caller: "Hey coach, I'm a huge fan. Love the job your doing!"
Coop: "Well, thank you very much."
Caller: "Yeah, I'm just wondering if your going to put any new wrinkles in this week for Michigan. You know, like the Heimlich Maneuver, you choker!!"

Coop: "What?!?"

Then whoever was hosting jumped in and asked a question about the defense or something. It was absolutely hysterical.

My guess is the show will last an hour, there will be 30 minutes of commercials.

In the other 30 minutes JT will take about 10-12 questions, and not actually answer any of them.

The commercials are horrible. I'm listening right now (at work) and he's in the middle of talking about Wisconsin's DBs vs NC State's DBs and Spielman comes on.. "Thanks for listening to 1460 the Fan dot com during the commercial breaks we'll be playing classic moments..."

Always cutting Tressl off. 4 minutes of show, 3.5 minutes of commercial. thus far.
