Will the Real National Champs Please Stand Up
I have noticed a trend amongst the football studio teams on ESPN and ABC to call USC the defending National Champions. John Saunders did it again on Saturday as did some others.
Now as I recall the BCS title game winner defines the National Champion. Last years title game was played by LSU and Oklahoma with LSU winning. Wouldn't that make LSU the defending National Champions? ABC telecasts all of the BCS games. ESPN and ABC are owned by the same parent company. So what gives? Did USC steal LSU's crown in a brawl on Burbon Street or Rodeo Drive? Was another game played when no one was watching between LSU and USC? |

I don't think there is ever a real national champ. Hence, the MNC.....

I think they should always have to say "Defending Co-National Champions"

I think they should say :
USC "Could have been National Champs had they not lost to Cal and played such a weak schedule that they didn't qualify for the BCS title game" Trojans |

I think that the title of Defending National Champions should just refer to the last exclusive, undefeted and undisputed national champions...
Now who could that be? ![]() |

Because of the fact LSU doesn't play pretty football this season and parts of last, like USC does supposedly, the media doesn't give them the respect they give the Trojans. It also has something to do with the pretty-boy, Hollywood-wannabe coach of theirs who is a media-friendly, rich kiss-a$$. Kind of reminds me of how OSU got looked at by the media the following season after the national championship win. The media, mainly Trev and Mark, would have loved for Miami to have won the NC game, so they could have sung the praises of the Hurricanes for another season. Anybody but the boring Buckeyes!
Can anyone tell me why Trev and Mark hate OSU? It's mainly Mark these days! -BH |

Yeah...to me it is amazing that USC is still #1...and Cal didn't drop in the ranking after losing to USC. I guess Stanford should be ranked about 10th. Oklahoma has to be the best team in the country right now. They have the defense and the running game. They are like Wisconsin, but with a Heisman Trophy winning QB. I like Auburn too. Right now my top 10 would be:
1. Oklahoma 2. Auburn 3. USC 4. Wisconsin 5. Purdue 6. Miami 7. Virginia 8. Georgia 9. Oklahoma State 10. Texas |

I'm telling you all this now. UVA I feel is a lot better than they are getting credit for. If their QB doesn't make too many big mistakes, they could be talking National Championship.

Their QB play this year has been solid - I watch UVA against Clemson and no one had an answer for this guy. |
