Jon Tenuta, from Georgia Tech, has been hired by Notre Dame to help their defense. Will it have any effect on Keith Wells' recruiting?

As previously mentioned, Wells had some visitors at school from the OSU staff today...more info as we can make it available.

I'd be very shocked if Wells doesn't pick Ohio State... regardless of what any so called "expert" thinks.

Keith discusses the coaches from tOSU, ND and Tenny. tOSU and Tenny still lead, with the ND visit coming this weekend. No change in timing, but Heacock and Fickell told him they would hold a scholarship until signing day.

Scout update sounds really favorable. When asked about his favorites, his relationship w/ Tress always seems to come up. He doesn't ever seem to go on about the other two coaches like that. Plus, he almost sounds exhausted when mentioning how much pressure he's getting from Fulmer to committ. I've always questioned Tressel's passive "committ when you are ready" approach b/c it seems like we've missed out on some OOS guys @ the end of recruiting season the last few years. I"ve always thought the more passive you are, it allows some of these other coaches to sneak in and snag these kids away @ the last minute. But after the job the staff has done this year, regardless of how things turn out with Pryor, Wells, Jenkins, Johnson, and Harris, I've changed my opinion. When the recruiting season comes to this point, coaches are knocking down your door trying to get that last visit. They all come in like car salesman giving their best sales pitch, promising things they they know they can't deliver. Tress says "hey, you come to OSU and if you compete right away, and we need you as a true freshman, and you can help us out on special teams or maybe in the 2-deep we won't red-shirt you. You just let us know when you're ready to be a Buckeye". I would think that this would be refreshing to a 17-18 yr old recruit after all the bull they have had to listen to from a lot of these coaches. I don't hear recruits saying tOSU coaching staff promised them playing time after their visits. They know going in they may not start right away but they also know they are going to be a part of one of the greatest programs in college football history and they will eventually get their shot to be the next Ted Ginn, Troy Smith, A.J. Hawk, Eddie George, or Orlando Pace. I'm already getting a little giddy for next year. Tress is on a roll and I don't see the program slippin' anytime soon. Why wouldn't you want to be a Buckeye right now?

No way can I top what was posted above me, but I'd like to add that in Keith's case, as in Harris, Pryor, and Jenkins we need to commend our Coaching staff on the incredible job they've done on keeping these young men "feeling the love" of the BUckeye Nation. TOSU offers the best "product" that these recruits are looking for. You suit up in the Scarlet and Gray and you're part of a "family" that just doesn't exist at other schools.

I agree with Mendessa in respect to the preferred approach. I like that our coach does business that way.

However, I don't believe that is the most effective approach. Used car salesmen don't always do what is in the best interest of their customers, but used car salesmen make their living by closing the deal before you leave the showroom. Used car salesman do quite well with teenagers and in past years I believe we have lost recruits for precisely that reason.

This season may be a good test of whether JT has found a way to refine his approach without compromising himself.

Just to be whimsical...

I wouldn't equate recruiting for the Buckeyes to Used Car Sales. Personally, I look at it more like a Lexus dealership. The sales in a luxury car dealership are different, IMO. People are coming there who CAN make the deal happen. They don't need as much assistance to make the deal happen. And the salesman is more or less a walking resource, but less of the entertainer who blows smoke to get it done. OSU Football is a Luxury; not a Cheap-Ass product. Kids have seen the product that JT has offered over the last few years. It will be for some and it won't for others. And that is the same on both sides.

I think ND's recent hire today could have changed and explain ND's sudden interest. I am not optomistic and sure that GT coaches had a relationship with Wells long before Tressel.
