2007 Fall Practice Tidbits

Info PLease. I know some of you have access to the practices or close to it. What is happening so far? Who is doing what?

Who is stepping up?
Even though defensive tackle Doug Worthington plays in the trenches, he has kept his eyes open for players who have been making strides the first four days of camp.

"On the D-line. I would have to say Nader Abdallah, and Dexter Larimore is coming along very, very well. We have a freshman linebacker, (Brian) Rolle from Florida, a little guy, No. 36. He has been outstanding. And (cornerback) Donald Washington, it seems like he matured a lot from last year.

"And on offense, Bryant Browning is blocking me and blocking sensational so far."

Browning is listed as the backup to senior right tackle Kirk Barton, but he is being groomed as a possible sixth man for the line.

There's a rumor quietly going around that Heacock is telling people he thinks this could become his best defensive line ever.

Quarterback picture still unclear
Trio vying for starting job hopes solid play on field can bring sharper focus

Widely varying personalities were on display yesterday as the Ohio State quarterbacks discussed a duel that likely will stretch into September.
Veteran Todd Boeckman, stoic and steady, chose carefully guarded words at 20 paces.
"We're all just going to go out there and compete and do what we do, and I guess the coach is going to take it from there," he said.
Rob Schoenhoft, impulsive on the field and off, shot from the hip.
"Todd is the older guy, so of course he's going to be construed as (the favorite), and I don't know if that's truth or not," he said. "It's really no big deal."

Think coach Jim Tressel might slip up at some point and inadvertently give us a clue about his thought process on the Ohio State quarterback derby?
If you do, you don't know him very well. Before his team's first official practice this week, Tressel was asked how he would like to see the four-man race unfold, and he again showed just how media savvy he is.

The team looks very fit and ready to go.
Except for one guy who looks like he's a bit out of shape.
Rehring looks fat?
Did he have an injury that wasn't reported?
If he came in out of shape he won't be a starter for long.
I would look for someone, Browning? to take that guard spot.
