One thing I wish would happen in camp is this: decide on a quarterback. It scares me to hear Tressel talking about playing all 3 guys 3 or 4 weeks into the season.

I would hope he learned his lesson with that. Pick a guy on Aug. 31st and go with him until he proves you wrong, be that Boeckman, Schoenhoft or Henton.

But maybe I can't blame the coach, maybe I should realize that none of the three QBs is rising above the rest?

2001 JT was going to start McMullen after SB's suspension because he had the better week of practice. Turned out some dude named Krenzel was a little better under game pressure. Kind of glad he experimented under fire instead of naming a guy and sticking with him no matter what. I'm sure Troy Smith is pleased with JT's method of QB tryouts during games as well.

Ohio State has thrown less often to its tight ends since 2003, leaving junior Rory Nicol with fewer chances.

It's a subtle approach, but it's clear the Ohio State football coaching staff is using the national-title game loss as motivation.

Two players in the past three days have mentioned that the Buckeyes are 0-1 in 2007. It's not a coincidence.
Running back Maurice Wells said there has been some "little stuff" around the Woody Hayes Athletic Center that stir memories of the 41-14 loss to Florida on Jan. 8.
"Our door code (security code to get in), the last two digits are 0-1," he said.
The motivational campaign is not on the scale of that for the Michigan game, certainly. The locker room is said to be covered year-round with Michigan-related articles.

Memory of 41-14 Lead Buckeyes to Trash Bag Training and Rugged Fall Camp

OSU defensive end Lawrence Wilson was describing a late-night run he took with Beanie Wells and Brian Robiskie this summer. It happened often actually during this off season. The phone would ring at any hour and the three of them would go out and get in a run, extra work to get in shape for the season.
"He calls and says 'Let go run.' It's usually me, Beanie and Robo," began Wilson. "We always push each other. One day we had trash bags on and we were running up and down the bleachers outside."
Trash bags?
Did he say trash bags?
"How do you wear a trash bag," Wilson was asked.
"You cut the head out and you cut the arms out so it fits," said Wilson with a straight serious face and without batting an eye.

Poor tackling means more contact in practice

COLUMBUS ? Ohio State was plagued by shoddy tackling while giving up 80 points in its final two games last season, and the coaches believe the only way to get better is to schedule more live contact in practice.
Although it puts their best players at risk, the Buckeyes have been pitting their first-string defense against the No. 1 offense throughout preseason camp.
"I don't think you really worry about getting hurt right now," linebackers coach Luke Fickell said. "If it happens, it happens. We do it every day. I haven't been many places (as a coach), but I don't know if there's many places that go more live ones-against-ones than here. We're even doing live kickoffs every day.

Columbus -- If a 6-1, 270-pound bowling ball of a fullback blows up a linebacker and leads running back Chris Wells into the end zone early this season, don't wonder who made that block or how he managed to do it.
On an Ohio State team full of recruiting coups and future NFL stars, that former walk-on center turned fullback, Tyler "Tank" Whaley, is the second-strongest Buckeye on the entire 105-man roster. Now the fifth-year senior is attempting to turn from weight-room monster to on-field producer.
The Buckeyes take to Ohio Stadium today for their preseason jersey scrimmage, their first chance this August to let their skills really shine. But they've been competing all summer, weight-room showdowns building the intensity they'll need when the season starts in two weeks.

First game can't get here soon enough

There's going to be an important display of football in Ohio Stadium this morning during an intrasquad scrimmage. But for some, the two weeks that remain before the first real competition, against Youngstown State, are agonizing.

"I'm anxious right now," defensive end Lawrence Wilson said. "Ever since we lost (to Florida 41-14 in the national title game Jan. 8) -- I just think about football more than I think about anything else. I think about football every day, nonstop. I'm just so anxious for the first day to come."
Practice the past two weeks has helped fill the void, he said, and the first extended scrimmage of the preseason will offer a dose of reality. But it's just not the same as a real game.

Plain Dealer Article had chart with top lifts....not included in online version

I was surprised to see the top bench press on the team was Barton at 440, with a couple others (including Vern) just behind him at 435.

Seems a little low for the top bench press? Kudla was a freak, so maybe his data point is an outlier but I believe he hit 565. I would think the top lift would be ~500.

Maybe different workout plans are being emphasized now that are geared more towards speed and quickness- rather than Kudlas freakish weightroom habits.....

Kudla was definitely a weight room freak that we probably won't see very often - definitely an outlier as you mentioned. Kudla may have the highest bench of any man to ever play college football to this point. He either matched or broke the NFL combine record for reps on the 225 last year. That being said, I'm also surprised there aren't a few guys topping the 450 mark.
