2007 Fall Practice Tidbits

Fall practice starts 8/6. The players will report a day earlier.

I know there is a 15-practice limit on spring practice. Is there a limit on fall practice? Any word on schedules? And are any of the practices public?

Ok everyone, Fall practice starts next week on monday after the players report on sunday. There will be a night practice on 8/20.
It will be great to hear from those of you who will have access to the practices/coaches/players/and others as we head into this session.
I, for one would like those who will be able to report as we go along to identify yourselves as such so we know who to look for.

This link has a chart showing a summary of the NCAA rule changes for fall practice that went into effect in 2003.

Days 1 and 2 - helmets only
Days 3 and 4 - helmets and pads
Day 5 - full pads, but like days 1 through 4, only a single session is allowed.
After that, there can be two-a-days, but not on consecutive days.

Buckeyes ready to start over

CHICAGO -- Even though he had a copy of the tape from television, it took linebacker Marcus Freeman about a month before he could stomach to watch Ohio State's implosion against Florida in the national championship game.


After recovering from the initial sting, Freeman said yesterday he has now seen the game in its entirety at least 10 times. Every viewing brings about a new learning opportunity, he said. It also drives home the realization that one night in the desert destroyed what was a perfect regular season.

''Every person that remembers the 2006 team is going to remember that's the team that got killed by Florida,'' Freeman said during the Big Ten preseason meetings. ''Going 12-0 is a huge accomplishment, but if we could trade that in for a national championship, I know we would.''

Running back Chris "Beanie" Wells could take pressure off the quarterback in the early part of the season.

Seven months removed from one of the bigger disappointments in Ohio State football history, a 41-14 loss to Florida in the national championship game, it's a new dawn for the Buckeyes as they report today for preseason camp.
Gone is almost every headliner from an exciting offense last season, including Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback Troy Smith and game-breaker Ted Ginn Jr. Most of the starters from the defensive line and secondary departed, too. Back is All-America linebacker James Laurinaitis and his crew, which is why most fans and analysts expect this team to lean on its defense early as the offense finds its way.

I love how Mike Hart says that "there's no doubt we would have beaten Ohio State" after they get trounced themselves by USC.

What's he going to say this year??

Man O man I'm getting excited. Being on BP keeps me on the cutting edge of being a fan so what probably will happen is that this year I will be pumped up way too much, if that is possible. But I do remember the years when I wouldn't hardly talk to the wife for 3 or 4 days after a loss.
I are better now!.

Ohio State will have to find a replacement for a Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback, and coach Jim Tressel said he probably won't settle on a starter until he sees all three candidates under fire during the season.
The Buckeyes also have just nine returning starters, the fewest in the Big Ten.
But while the team will go into the year with players in key positions who are largely unknown, Tressel doesn't expect them to remain that way for long.
