I wonder how the heck we get all these guys on the field because they all are going to be outstanding football players.

You start on special teams and work your way into the 2 deep just like the players before them did. They have so much talent burried on the depth chart it will be hard to keep them all happy. The key thing is the staff is bringing in kids who buy into the team concept. Their time will come to showcase their skills even if only for a couple of years and then they will hear their name being called on Draft Saturday. A few NC's to fill in the time will be o.k. with me.

They even showed Dorian Bell with his Ohio State hat on!

Junior linebacker gives early verbal

Dorian Bell felt absolutely certain. So he figured why wait.
Bell, a standout linebacker at Gateway High School, announced at a news conference yesterday he had made a verbal commitment to Ohio State. Although Bell is only a junior and can't sign a binding letter of intent with the Buckeyes until February of his senior year, he said there will be no changing his mind.
"Some people love [recruiting]," Bell said. "They just want to keep riding and riding it. To me, I just wanted to get it over with because I knew I was comfortable with my decision."
Bell (6 feet 1/2, 225 pounds) is considered the top college prospect in the WPIAL for next season. Both College Football: Rivals.com - College Football and Scout.com - College and High School Football, Basketball, Recruiting, NFL, and MLB Front Page rank him among the top 25 juniors in the country. His decision means Ohio State has landed the WPIAL's top player in two consecutive classes. Jeannette senior quarterback Terrelle Pryor signed with Ohio State last month.

"He's the best pure athlete I've ever coached," Smith said. "The reason I say that is because he can play any skill position -- receiver, tight end, fullback, running back, linebacker, cornerback, safety. And he can be the best at all of them. Other players I've had are kind of pinpointed in one position."

College football: Buckeyes tap into Pennsylvania again

Ohio State scored a recruiting double whammy in western Pennsylvania yesterday, gaining commitments for the 2009 class from linebacker Dorian Bell of Monroeville Gateway and from Jeannette running back Jordan Hall, teammate of Terrelle Pryor. Bell and Hall, who increased Ohio State's 2009 recruiting class to 11 members, said their minds were swayed by their visit over the weekend and by attending the Scarlet and Gray game in Ohio Stadium.
"When I walked down into Ohio Stadium, the feeling I got, it was just phenomenal," Bell said. "When I was there, I felt like I never left home, it was so great there."

Apparently Terrelle Pryor sealed the deal by convincing Givens that the Buckeyes where going to get over the hump soon with the help of two great recruiting classes in a row, in 2008 and 2009.

It kills me when I read "get over the hump," because I'm thinking, Geesh, we just won the title in 2002 and have won three other bowls, two in the BCS, and played for two more national titles since. What hump do we need to get over?

Then I realize that all the kids in these classes we're targeting now were in, like, the 6th and 7th grade in 2002 and probably don't remember that season so well, if at all. Several of them probably weren't even interested in football yet, or at least hadn't played in any sort of organized game. The kids that are part of the incoming class for 08 were about 12 years old when we won the title.

Time flies.

I'm getting old.

I hear ya. I get so sick of the stigma that we have issues because we've lost two title games in a row. What team wouldn't dream about playing for all the marbles 2 years in a row? Geez...and last year's team was supposed to finish 3rd in the Big Ten. I'd say we have a pretty dominant program!

Okay, I'm done venting...back to Dorian. The best recruit in all of PA two years running! Lovin' it baby!

I see where you guys are coming from but I think for many recruits who aren't diehard fans, they watch the NC game and perhaps the only 2 times the recruits had seen us was when we got smashed by LSU and Florida. We know better but with the media hatefest and the NC game being on such a big stage, it would seem like we need to "get over the hump".

I don't think they look at it like that at all. These NC games have made us a national recruiting force, despite the fact they turned out badly. They see us as the school that gives them the best opportunity to play for an NC.

And to add to that..

In my opinion, no matter what ESPN says, these kids realize that we contend every year. They understand how tough it is to get to championship games, and understand how much tougher it is to win one. The only people holding these national championship losses against us are those who voted us into it - the media.

The kids apparently aren't too afraid of it. We've pulled in classes that rival the best in the country two years in a row. The kids recognize that it takes something special to get to the title game two years in a row.

I think one of the reasons why you have all these kids hopping on is that Tressel has solidly established our credentials as a great defensive team ever year. I don't think we ever had a bad defense since Tressel has been here. As long as we have that, we will always have success.
