PG East: Gateway defense is keeping its opponents off the scoreboard
Thursday, September 18, 2008
By Brad Everett, Tri-State Sports & News Service

Quote:
Having another major-college recruit leading the way hasn't hurt either. Ohio State recruit Dorian Bell came into the season with plenty of hype surrounding his game and, so far, has answered the bell in a booming way. A senior linebacker who led the Gators in tackles last season, Bell has picked up right where he left off with big plays galore, while also maintaining the role of leader.
"He's competitive and wants to win at all costs," Smith said of Bell, who also stars at running back. "He's the heart and soul of that defense. I wouldn't say, as he goes, we go, because we have a good group around him that can step up when needed to. But he's the one that, if we give up a few yards, he's getting in someone's face and letting them know it's unacceptable."

Gateway finished with 199 yards total on only 23 carries.

Bell added 60 yards and a touchdown on eight carries, while Williams led all rushers with 92 yards and two touchdowns on just four carries.

Bell finished with seven tackles from his linebacker position, while corner Orne Bey harassed the Warriors all night, leading Gateway with nine tackles.

The Ohio State football team sure could use some of that this year.

And he's humble too!!!

The reason I love Dorian Bell, is that he's a new type of linebacker(dare I say it, an SEC type linebacker).

Dorian Bell is like the linebackers Auburn has been using all these years. I hope we don't put too much weight on him, because I think he can be special(AJ Hawk potential at the Will spot).

Ideally, Rolle or Moeller play Will next year, with Bell splitting time.

Bell probably has more natural talent than either Moeller or Rolle.

The thing I like most about Bell is that he knows how to blitz.. right now we dont have a starting LB that has any idea how to effectively time their blitz, get through traffic, and harass the QB

That's why I think he'll be AJ Hawk-esque here. Hawk knew how to blitz better than anyone I've ever seen(he could also read the run and drop in coverage just as well. Best Damn linebackers in Ohio State history IMO).

JL and Freeman are great in their own ways(some of the time), but they're just not that type of linebacker. They don't have that knack for rushing the quarterback effectively. It seems when we blitz either of them(especially JL), that they can't get off or avoid blockers. Hawk could do those things, and I think Bell will be able to do them too.

High School Football Notebook: Gateway's Bell rings up touchdowns, too
Monday, September 29, 2008
By Mike White, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette
Gateway's Dorian Bell is considered one of the top linebackers in the country, and came into the season considered the No. 1 player in the WPIAL. So far, he has done nothing but enhance his reputation -- as a running back.
Bell sees time at tailback and fullback for Gateway. He doesn't carry the ball often, but when he does, it ends up in a touchdown 40 percent of the time.
Bell, a 6-foot-1, 225-pound senior and an Ohio State recruit, carried the ball twice against Norwin Friday, but scored both times on runs of 80 yards in the second quarter and 88 yards in the third.
For the season, Bell has carried 20 times for 459 yards, a whopping 23-yard average. He also has run for eight touchdowns.
"That's why I've always said he's the best player we've ever had," Gateway coach Terry Smith said. "Just because if he focused on one position, he would be the best at that position. If he focused on just running back, he'd be the best in the WPIAL, if not the state. Anywhere we put him, he'd be the best."
But Bell's future is at linebacker. When asked what kind of season Bell is having on defense, Smith, "He's been incredible."
Against Norwin, Bell had three sacks and 10 tackles. For the season, he has 44 tackles, including 10 for losses, six sacks and one forced fumble. And he hasn't played a full game yet because Gateway has blown out every team.
"As coaches," Smith said, "we just keep seeing some different play from him and we say, 'Man, look at that.'"

The more I read about him and what his coach reports. He reminds me of Chris wells. I wonder if OSU would ever give him a shot at RB. Like, Ginn recruited as a CB, played WR. Beanie was a monster at LB in high school, I started his thread and he was an animal. I still think he would have played a lot as a freshmen at LB just like, he did at RB. Think about how he stiff-arms when he runs., imagine him tackling.

We already have a top 5 recruit at RB in Jamall Berry...

Bell's future is LB, and man I love all the TFL's and sacks that he can bring from the LB position...
