Harvey (1-4) was at times sloppy and other times terrific, and the latter happened mostly when junior Chris Fields had the ball. He worked with quarterback Mickey Mohner, tailback Chris Bowler and a steady offensive line to keep the Red Raiders in the game.

Fields scored on an electric, 90-yard kickoff return in the first quarter. His 15-yard touchdown off a reverse on fourth down in the fourth quarter put Harvey in position to take the lead, which it did when Mickey Mohner threw a two-point conversion pass to Josh Colo with 4:04 remaining.

Fields, a 5-11 junior, drew praise from the Knights as one of the best players they've faced this year. He had 304 all-purpose yards.

"Every week he comes out and makes bigger and bigger plays," Harvey coach Devlin Culliver said.

Fielding offers:

Harvey coach Devlin Culliver said junior wideout Chris Fields (5-11, 175) has an offer from the University of Akron, and the coach expects Fields to receive offers from Penn State, Michigan State and Ohio University.

"We're waiting on Ohio State," Culliver said. "I have to send them a tape for them to get the offer. Right now, he wants to go to Ohio State. Obviously, he's good enough."

Fields had 302 all-purpose yards against Archbishop Hoban last week.

NEW RECORD: Painesville Harvey QB Mick Mohner set a school total-offense record in a 41-28 victory over Jefferson Area. A first-team All-Ohioan last year, Mohner passed for 281 yards and four TDs and ran for 27 yards. That gave him 3,926 yards, surpassing the old mark set by Sean Seibert (1986-88), who has worked with Mohner for years. The first three of Mohner's TD passes went to Chris Fields on throws of 27, 69 and 10 yards. Fields caught six passes for 144 yards and on his only run of the night he scored from 33 yards out.

Does anyone have any info on his grades? Can he get past admissions?

Grades obviously aren't public knowledge, but from a "little birdie" I've heard that grades are not an issue with Chris.

I've gotten to see him play twice this year and he is all that is advertised. He;s "football" all the way and will not be another Torrence. I'd guess him out to be about 6'0" and about 180. There's plenty of room for him to put on some quality pounds. Chris is Coach Culliver's guy. Culliver will in no way let this kid stray, in a neighborhood where it's very easy to "stray." If Chris continues to progress the way he has this year, he will easily be a Top-20 National Recruit next year.

Thank you. After watching his sophomore highlights, I wondered if there was some reason why he had not been offered yet. He looks like an outstanding prospect. That's why I asked about his grades.

Unless the staff knows something that isn't the "buzz" around here, which is entirely possible. Grades are one thing, admissions can be, and in some instances we've seen first hand, are often an issue. I would hope that any potential issues would be cleared up, Chris has pretty much two years of school left.

I would hope that an offer comes soon, because next year will be a totally different scene for Chris. Harvey is graduating it's QB Mick Mohner, and he's a damn fine QB. Would love to see him get a shot, maybe at the MAC level. With that, and not knowing what Harvey has in the wings next year would raise a question about getting the ball to Chris. That and the fact that THIS immediate area does not play to a high level of competition. I think this concern was an issue for it taking awhile for Dilillo from Madison to get his offer as well.

Maybe the Painesville Harvey Alumni Association (if they even have one) can petition it's two most well known football alums to shoot some vibes towards the Buckeye staff to get this kid on board. One of those would be the great John Mummey. The other would be the legendary Don Shula.

I dont think Fields needs to get alumni to get his name out there. He supposedly played out of this world at the underclassmen summer camp.

Anyway, be patient, most people do NOT get offers this early.

I coached against Painesville Harvey recently. Fields is the best receiver that I have seen in person since Joe Jurevicius. He has amazing speed and runs great routes. He is also taller than I thought. BTW, look for him to have some big numbers bext year. Their Junior Varsity QB is really impressive.

From the OSU site...reacap of his junior season. Akron has offered and tape is out to the likes of Ohio State, Florida, Oklahoma, NC State, Georgia Tech, Tennessee, Notre Dame, Penn State and Florida State. Talks about being at The Shoe for the Wisconsin game and his feelings about possibly being a Buckeye someday.
