Darned elitist b's, if he has another good camp (hopefully he camps at tOSU again) then maybe he'll get his offer then. If not and he is patient, we've seen time and again that talented, true lovers of tOSU often times get offered late.

If grades are in order I would be all for an offer...The competition is not all that strong, but when catching the ball and getting up field and returning kicks he doesnt show much wasted movement, he is in and out of his cuts very quick, looks to have great balance...As for his route running I do believe that will need a little bit of work, but he catches the ball well with his hands out in front of his body, and he has a nice vertical to go up and get the ball in the air, and seems to understand how to get on the inside of his man and shield him from the ball...

He is still a little raw, but he has skills that can't be taught like speed, and his ability to get in and out of cuts...

I am about as far from an expert talent evaluator as one can get, but I see an awful lot to like about this kid. Obviously the speed, but with the level of competition, I was looking for something else, and there was plenty to see.

Good hands and ball skills, caught it in traffic, when it was high, low or behind him. Good open field vision with pretty good wiggle, also showed a pretty good use of his blockers. Not an easy kid to bring down, seldom did the first guy get him down, and saw few if any arm tackles do the trick. It looked like he has decent route running as well, was used out of the backfield, on reverses, and screens, caught it accross the middle and obviously ran a lot of go routes with the speed differences with his competition. Good hands and his vision and wiggle helped on punt returns.

I like this kid a lot and hope at the very least he gets a real good look from the staff. I also would not mind seeing the play package he was used in, implemented for RSmall or Flash.

I'm interested in seeing others evaluation of his film to see if I'm looking at what I'm supposed to be and seeing it

From all the info, if Chris can earn a tOSU acceptable test score, then he most probably will earn a tOSU offer. IMO, I'm sure that this has been clearly communicated and understood. It appears that zook offers alot of Ohio kids early for 2009 even though they may have still not qualified academically. IMO, it also appears that illinois has lower academic standards than tOSU. Let's not get bent out of shape b/c zook uses desparate recruiting tactics and has no recruiting standards. Someone would say it's a conditional offer. In reality, until 2009 NLOID, everything is really conditional based on senior grades and the code of conduct. It's too bad b/c this sends the wrong message to these players that football is more important than academic achievement.

Good points WiseBuck, JT and staff do not use a shotgun approach to making offers to kids, some of the southern schools and the Zookster do. I think that sometimes tOSU loses out on a few kids, but overall it is probably a better policy, not many Zebrie Sanders cases, where kid decides he wants to go somewhere only to be told, too late someone else took your spot because you waited too long. JT's approach also cuts down on the academic losses that hit so many other schools by making sure, to the best of tOSU's ability that kids have that aspect together before being offerred.

We sure cannot complain about results, and tOSU seems to get a lot of very good young men to wear the S&G

Very impressed...I really see a Peter Warrick type player in that film. I would love to see us offer if grades are in order (reported 2.6 GPA, with a 3.6 last quarter). I really like Fields because of his versatility...I think he could play in the slot or out wide. He's good at working the middle and he can also hit the homerun out wide. He is also great on reverses and could be used for end arounds. On top of all of that, he would be a great kick returner.

Chris Fields video reminds me of Teddy Ginn with the great speed and elusiveness. Also the vision and toughness not to go down and breaking tackles.

Talent is not the issue...acadmics are. His stock is rising in that department but the staff may want to see another set of solid grades before pulling the trigger.

Thanks Wad, tis the season for staking out your spot on the ledge, and blood pressure meds and Xanax. We (definitely I) tend to forget the tenet "in Tress we trust" Having kids who will do all they can to become Buckeyes (ask Shaq) gives us and the Staff insight on how motivated and hard working they are and will be. TOSU has had a few disappointments with kids who we thought were going to be Bucks, only to be nixed by the admissions group. Patience is a virtue, alas football recruiting is about as far from virtuous as can be.

Illinois joins race for Harvey's Fields

Chris Fields isn't sure where he'll be playing college football in two years, but there's a good chance it will be someplace big.
Illinois coach Ron Zook offered the Harvey junior a scholarship last week, and more offers are expected to come for the 6-foot-1, 180-pound speedster.
Ohio State assistant coach Taver Johnson was at Harvey on Tuesday, and a number of other schools are after Fields' services.
"It's been a dream of mine my whole life to get a big offer from a big college," Fields said. "(The Illinois) offer is a blessing. It motivates me to work even harder in the weight room now."
Fields has also received scholarship offers from Akron, Kent State, Ohio University and Southern (La.) University. He lists Ohio State and Illinois as his top two choices, but also favors Nebraska and Iowa.
Fields will take an official visit to Ohio State on Feb. 10. He will also visit Illinois, but doesn't know exactly where his remaining three official visits will take him.
