"As highly recruited as Zebrie was ? everybody wanted him. And we thought he had a spot locked up at Florida," said Northmont senior-to-be C.J. Barnett, a prized recruit himself. "He was Ping-Ponging back and forth and then made a decision, and that came back and bit him in the end.

"It's good to get all that attention, but it comes at a price when that happens."

OSU's wake-up call

Sanders' treatment served as a cautionary tale for Barnett, who didn't dawdle in making his decision. The cornerback gave Ohio State a verbal commitment as a junior in February ? a full year before he can sign a binding national letter-of-intent.

Although the Buckeyes probably would have given him more time, Barnett didn't want to take that chance. And judging by the surge in early commitments across the nation, others have been quick to pounce on their most attractive offer.

The dude is stacked.

It appears that Tres is really looking for kids that can play now as opposed to down the road. The last two classes are just loaded with kids who can step in from day 1 and play.

I'm going to watch CJ take on St. Ignatius tonight, so I'll post my take asap. I'll also watch Dan Fox, plus Scott McVey from St. Ignatius...he was called personally by Tressel and invited to Saturday's game.

Thoughts on the game: Not C.J.'s best game. It's always tough to get a good read on corners, but just about every time the ball was thrown his way, he was beat. St. Ignatius is a good team, but C.J. was nearly a non-factor. On punt returns, he had room but was tackled for almost no gain every time. He had a couple nice hits and a tipped ball that showed good range, but he got beat more times than not. However, you can see that he has the physical tools to be a good one. As I said, probably just a bad game because he looked great on film.

I would say it's a possibility but not probable. I think he has the attributes of a corner all the way. He physically looks about like Malcolm Jenkins right now. You can tell he has the tools but he has a ton of work to do. I'll try to go see him in action again if I can.

CLAYTON ? One play helped lift Northmont to a benchmark 17-7 victory over Wayne on Friday night, Sept. 27, in front of 8,500 at Good Samaritan Stadium.
The Warriors hope one play didn't snuff its playoff hopes and the sophomore season of quarterback Braxton Miller.
A 65-yard punt return touchdown by C.J. Barnett was the catalyst in Northmont's dominating second half. The Thunderbolts added a Joe Inkrott field goal and Kevin Ringer touchdown run to debut in the GWOC Central Division with a win.
"It's really big," Barnett said.
