Zurp's 2007 Pick 'Em Game
Time again for pick 'em games. My pick 'em game is very different from past years' games. Instead of picking winners of each games, we'll pick teams, and get points based on how many wins those teams get.
It will start like this: we each get 15 points. Spend those points to "buy" teams. Teams initially will be worth the number of wins they had last season. Only Big Ten teams will be used, and only Big Ten records will be used.
Teams are therefore worth the following point values:
Ohio State - 8
Michigan - 7
Wisconsin - 7
Penn State - 5
Purdue - 5
Minnesota - 3
Indiana - 3
Iowa - 2
Northwestern - 2
Michigan State - 1
Illinois - 1
The most number of teams you can have at any time is 4. But you do not need to have 4 teams. For example, you can buy Ohio State and Michigan for 15 points, or Penn State, Purdue, Minnesota, and Illinois for 14 points. Or any other combination you can think of. If you do not use all 15 points, you lose any leftover points at this time.
When a team has 3 Big Ten games under its belt, you may "buy" or "sell" them. Teams will again be worth the number of points as wins they have, at that point. You may "buy" and "sell" teams as much as you want, as long as you continue to follow the rules of a maximum of 4 teams at any time, and you can only "own" a specific team once at a time. For example, if you already own 2-1 Iowa and 2-1 Minnesota, you can't sell Iowa and buy another Minnesota.
At this time, you MAY keep leftover points. For example, if you have 2-1 Iowa, and you sell them, you have 2 points. You might buy 1-2 Indiana, and keep 1 leftover point. This may be beneficial if you think Indiana is going to win the next game, and Iowa will not.
I think that's about all. Oh - a loop-hole that I thought of that cannot be used (I have guards watching it) is trying to sell a team that just played a 12:00 game, and buying a team that is about to play a 3:30 game. Once the first game begins that week, no more buying or selling for that week. Buying and selling will start back up after the final game of that week. I don't think there are any Big Ten games that aren't on Saturdays, so it shouldn't be hard to figure out which game goes to which week.
If there are any questions, let me know. I'd like for everyone to pick teams by the first game of the season, even though the first few weeks don't count in this game.
If there are late-comers, those people will lose 1 point for each week they missed. For example, if people start between Sept 1 and Sept 8, they only get 14 points. People who start between Sept 8 and Sept 15, they only get 13 points. Once Big Ten play starts, you're SOL.

I'm going to need a spreadsheet and a calculator to analyze this stuff. While I'm at it I may design a new spaceshuttle. JK
