Who's the Greatest Buckeye Tailback? (Please vote for THREE)
Three years ago, we did a series of polls in which the BP community selected the "Greatest Buckeye Ever" team. Since then, many more great players have passed through the Woody Hayes Athletic Center, so it's probably a good time to revisit the polls.
Every week, we will post a poll on "Who's the Greatest Buckeye" at each of the positions. The first poll, quarterback, will open today, and run for a month. All players selected for the poll will be from the "modern era", which we have more-or-less arbitrarily determined to have begun with the hiring of Woody Hayes in 1951. However, there will be a special poll for the older Buckeye stars, where you will be allowed to choose amongst such greats as Les Horvath, Vic Janowicz, Chic Harley, etc. Please vote on each poll, if you can. Also, please note that each poll will allow you to vote at least twice, as we would like to compile a first and second team. If you vote for "other", please let us know your selection(s) by setting forth the name(s) in a post. Polls will be posted as follows: 1. Quarterback 2. Multi-purpose player 3. Tailback 4. Fullback 5. Wide Receiver 6. Tight End 7. Offensive Tackle 8. Offensive Guard 9. Offensive Center 10. Defensive Tackle 11. Defensive End 12. Linebacker 13. Safety 14. Cornerback 15. Kicker 16. Punter 17. "Old Timer" 18. Head Coach So, please vote now for your All-Time Greatest Buckeye Tailback; please make THREE selections. Thanks for your participation. NOTE: Hopalong Cassady, who starred at halfback and cornerback, is a selection for Greatest Buckeye Multi-Purpose Player. Link to the 2004 poll Last edited by LordJeffBuck; 10-17-2007 at 10:44 AM. |

Tough to have to leave Kieth off but how can you not take Archie and Eddie? (Of course 14 or so people out there don't think Hop Cassady is a top 3 multi purpose player of all time so anythings possible I guess

Yeah... but it doesn't mean I have to like it.

Who's the Greatest Buckeye Tailback? (Please vote for THREE)
Because we had some whiners complain about being limited to only TWO selections, I have re-posted this poll so that you can now vote for THREE tailbacks.

Easiest poll so far, in my opinion.
#1 - Archie #2 - Eddie #3 - Keith Byars I don't know why I felt the need to put Keith's last name there, but not for Archie or Eddie. I guess if you don't get the Heisman, you are doomed to keep a last name. |

one of the more difficult yet. it was really difficult to not vote for robert smith. though if i were permitted i would have voted for archie twice.

Since I'm the only one so far, I'm going to admit to be the douchebag that voted for Clarett. (And his opposites Eddie and Archie)
The National Championship game, nuff said. All of the off the field crap afterwards tarnishes it a bit, but I still can't take too much away from what he did that season as a true freshman |

Clarett doesn't deserve to be mentioned in the same breath as he really good ones. There also are a lot who are not listed that I could vote for. But since you are limiting us to a select few then I will go with Archie, Keith, and Eddie.

Voted for George, Byars, and Griffin. I know I am going to get holy hell for the following statement but I do not believe Griffin was the greatest tailback ever to play at Ohio State. To a certain extent, he was the product of the system and a tremendous offensive line in front of him for all 4 seasons. I know that he had great running instincts but as far as being the best tailback I'm not so sure. Byars and George both had good instincts but also could catch the ball and were probably faster than Archie.
I guess John Brockington will be a fullback. I thought that he lined up as a tailback quite a bit but am unsure. |
