Ohio State Football reaches new deal with Nike Thursday, September 13, 2007 Doug Lesmerises Plain Dealer Reporter Columbus -- Ohio State football trainers beware -- too many wrong tape jobs and you could cost the athletic department nearly $12,000 per messed up football cleat. On Wednesday, Ohio State announced it had reached a new seven-year, $26 million deal for Nike to provide athletic equipment to Buckeye sports teams and make and sell OSU football jerseys that will kick in at least another $200,000 per year to the athletic department in royalties. The new contract, which went into effect on Aug. 1 though it was just made public Wednesday, was signed despite the fact that a previous OSU-Nike deal was just entering the second year of a seven-year contract. That one was worth only $16.3 million. Perhaps the eight-year, $60 million deal Michigan signed with adidas in July, after formerly wearing Nike, had something to do with the renegotiation. Damn. When I saw the thread title, I thought it was going to be about us getting two new pant designs, two more jerseys, and a reversed design of the helmet. Maybe some of that cool piping and diamond plate over the thighs and shoulders. Oh, and green AND black helmet stickers.
 Truthfully, though, I hate Nike. I wish Gene would've held out for more from Adidas. I like Adidas.

Remember how cool the Buckeye's uniforms were, back when there was gray on the sleeves, gray or silver pants... back before Nike began screwing around with things...
There's only ONE reason the buckeyes went away from the traditional look: put out a new jersey so Nike can make more money sending jobs off to Sri Lanka and Chinese political prisons. Bah humbug!

I'm not a fan of adidas. UCLA, Wisconsin, Tennessee, Notre Dame (I think)... I don't like any of the jerseys. Everyone hates the Oregon jerseys/unis but I think they're slick! The black and dark green one's are the best, but that thing is Oregon agreed to have Nike try several different uni designs... Not Nike. Nike offered and Oregon accepted. Some of the Under Armour jerseys are ok, they all look relatively the same though. I think one of my favorite jerseys that I've seen this year are Oregon State's.
